You are only the 2nd person I have seen run 42's and get away with it. There is one guy in AZ that runs 42's on a D44 w/chromo's & locker and has gotten away with it sofar. His truck is lightened though being narrowed front and rear. He is a good driver though cause he has a BBC with enough power to snap stuff easy. He is looking for a D60 passively though because he was with a group of us AZ guys in Parker and watched 37's break 2 chromo stubs in the same day. Survival of 1/2 tons with big tires and lockers is mostly about driving style.

Harley

Yeah, I know its rare but I did have a conservative throttle style. :wink1:
I was running a 350tbi, th350, welded 14b rear, 30spline front 10bolt stock shafts, eaton limited slip and warn premos. I ran 36s for one year and then moved up to the 42s for about 2 more years. I've got a d60 and sm465 now and on it's first run I busted a lockout and stripped a stub shaft, go figure:confused:

harley must be talking about luxorallen, that rig is awesome, hydo assist, crossover, locked with chromos and 42's , rode with him last weekend, excellent wheeler even with 500 horse on tap.. haha.. nate

Man,

Y'all have me in stitches! :haha: All these 10 Bolts in the rocks??? I thought everyone said they aren't good to have. I see carnage too! I'm not laughing at the damages, it's just that everyone rags on the capabilities of the 10 Bolts and then I see y'all puttin' them through the paces. Good stuff! :waytogo:

Manny

ya know, all we have is deep sugar sand and nasty mud, no rocks in my area... ive looked, cant find any... mine held up a lot better than i figgered it would...

Keep in mind when he was floggin it he kept the tires pretty straight. He did alot of lock to lock manuvering but when he got on it the tires were close to being straight. Axles and ujoints are the strongest when they are straight. The easiest way to bust a front axle is to turn the wheels to full lock and gas it. Bouncing is also a big no no but his chromo's saved his arse in those vids. Stock axles and ujoints probably would have busted.

Harley
That was one thing I was always careful about, I tried very hard not to get hard on the throttle with the wheels turned.

Well my stock 10 bolts got me all the way up on Cliff Hanger with NO lockers. Also wheeled for 4 days and drove there and home with no problems - over 2000 miles so ............

Here is the Blazer Harley is talking about. 42" Irocs, TBI 454, 700r4, doubler, lockers, 5:13 gears, 14bff rear, Dana 44 front with chromos. By the way, that is Homeslice in the last pic riding with Allan.

I have an 85 K10 that has 10bolts front/rear. I regeared them to 4.10s to match better my 35" BFG A/Ts. Then i locked the rear with the Loc Rite. And ran that for a while flogging it through everything. Granted my truck doesn't see any rocks because I don't think they exist in Massachusetts. But pine trees are rather abundant... :doah:

Anyway I did end up breaking an axel shaft in my rear 10bolt because i tried to do a brake stand on dry pavement. So now I have 1 chromo shaft in my rear :doah:.

yup more pix 001.jpg

But now I run 35" Mickey Thompson MTZs and they are little heavier than the A/Ts and grip way better so I won't be trying any burnouts on dry pavement until I go to a 6 lug 14bsf. But in the mud I still flog it! :saweet:

Holy old thread batman!

I'd like to point out that there isnt any mention of broken gears on a 10b front.
it just doesnt happen much.

I'll never understand why 10b fronts get such a bad rap.

axle shafts are the weak point.

and that being said, i have had my Burb on some pretty decent trails, alot where a Burb shouldn't be, had the 10 bolt front since bought, about 5-6 years or so, and just recently broke a long side shaft. Witnesses say the tire was bound up pretty decently while in a turned position.

running a 35x8.5 tire too.

easy on the gas pedal, careful not to bind them up and they should last for awhile.

yup, they are. i too have only broken shafts, but not many. Ive run 35's, 38.5's, and 44" boggers. only broke on shaft with the boggers, tire bound up in the wheel well.

Chromoly shafts and Loc Rite locker in rear

when i ran the 38s i wore out the ball joints and tre's about every year. also the bearings go out once or twice a year due to how much i wheeled it... seems to be more mud/water related cause you never can fully seal them dang things.

i also broke a long shaft when it was under my burb. only time i really broke anything. floored it in 4low on gravel.

I beat my 10 bolt pretty good open with 37 s. Also 3.73 gears high gears and open saves it sorry no pics.

thats what mine are :) which is why i never went up in gearing. everyone i hear running 4.56s snap them like crazy
