I want to ditch the stock air cleaner setup for an open element one, like a k&n.Post up pictures of what you have and if you saw any differnce.

For the k&n ones, if you hav any noise coming from the carb or TB then you will hear it, big noise difference, of course it almost sound like a supercharcher, at least on mine

I have this one

Im stuck at work or I'd snap a pic for ya. I have the 4" tall K&N with the pre-filter around it. Its the offset one to clear HEI. Cant tell you about how much a difference it made since it went with my built 383. The K&N filter and air tube is supposed to give 10 Dyno proven HP on my Mustang GT... So its good for a li'l bit. And I like not having to always buy new ones when gets dirty. Ive gone wheeling at times, motor starts running bad so when I get home or to a buddies place, I can clean it and be good to go.

That's the one I want, any part #?Is it for tbi?
Yes it's for TBI. I have it on my 91 K5. I can get you a prt number just give me a couple of minutes

You're the man! Thanks.Notice any difference? What is everybody else running?Custom, stock modified?

i fabbed up an open air intake for my 95 4.3L s series blazer w/ a "vibrant" brand air filter. there was definintely a small improvement in the seat of the pants feel in terms of horsepower. makes your motor sound a bit more manly too. :) can't imagine you wouldn't feel similar results in another application. The motor for my K5 isn't done being built yet, so i can't comment too much on the v8's. guess i couldn't comment much anyway since my K5's motor is a diesel. just my .02.

Here is mine.

I am cheap, the filter was in it when I bought it plus when I take it in for smog I just flip the lid back over, after I clean it off of course. As far as noise there is a definate deeper sound I think from the injectors firing. It makes it sound more like a V-8.

That is one thing about California, i do have to take it off and put the old one on for smog's :(

I live in a non smog county so I'm good :D I do want it to run as clean as possible but I don't think the air cleaner will hurt much.

Here's the one I used to have on mine. I still got it, just switched to a factory style open element air cleaner that sits down closer to the carb.

THis one sat in my dad's garage for years and I thought I'd try it out. It was made out of spun aluminum and with the dropped center in the lid it did not take a stud that much longer than my other open element does. I liked it because it put the air intake up higher, problem is you hit a big puddle or water crossing fast enough it will still soak the dang thing.

for mud or water... yer gonna gulp some ..... not bad if yer motor is thursty :haha:

I had an open element.. and same day took it off... now I use this...factory one.... for my holley I had to use the chevy van spacer... it isnt "sealed" but does the job so far...

I know I know... the 1989 olds 88 fuse/relay pack on the firewall looks like poop... gonna clean that up next summer :haha:

I'll only take it through mild mud/water and some mild wheeling so I'm not worried about soaking it.I like the sound and breathing ability of an open element.I may get a snorkle for my 87 runner though.I want to suck in cool air.My intake tube on that runs over the radiator.

This is the 6in K&N on my 350HO crate motor. It just fits under the hood You can definitly hear a difference with it. even just between it being dirty and after I just cleaned it. I'm sure it adds a little something over the stock 2in that came on the motor.
