Lift/axle upgrade

Thanks. Next up is to get gears so I can give the trans a break on pushing those tires.

They are XD Series Hoss 17x9. The only thing that rubs is the weights from when I got them balanced, but just a bit so I'm not worried.

Get balancing beads then. No more weights on the wheels.

I was reading about those yesterday in a thread on pitbulls. One of the guys are using airsoft pellet gun bbs. I'm calling a couple tire places today to see if they can do it with the beads. Thank you for the input.

It's not hard to do. Been doing it myself for years.

I've used actual ceramic beads intended for it and also Airsoft BB's. The BB's don't work as well because they are physically larger but if the tires are very true (mine were the Michelin XL's that are famous for being vibe free) then they will work. Dunno on Pitbull's "roundness". If you can break the bead you can just dump them in and reseat the tire. Couple of the companies even sell the beads in packets that you dump into the tire, reseat, and then the first couple spins rip the bag open and viola, all done.

Oh yeah, ever do anything on the axles? See you're still 6 lug and autolocking hubs up front.

How many oz's should I start with? I think the other guy was using 12-15 if I'm not mistaken but he was running 40's.

I found some 3/4 tons but the guy wants 800 for them. I'll eventually upgrade, I just need to find the right deal. You should have seen the look on my wifes face when I told about having to get another set of rims, good stuff.

What hubs are you running?

Eh, since you said it's mostly light duty you could always find a 14SF with 6 lugs. That'd be my choice.

$800 for 3/4 tons? Guys on crack unless they already have low gears, a Detroit in the rear, and are totally rebuilt. A stock set goes for as low as $150 if it needs work.

As far as the ounces...don't rightly remember. I want to say I had like 11oz in my 38" Michelins but I do remember I had extra so just went higher for good measure. I sort of went off the Innovative Balancing chart for their beads and added some for the BB's.

Oh, I have Warn Premium manual hubs. The popular choice around here. Might even be able to score a set used on here. Got mine for $50 when a guy upgraded axles.

I have a 3/4 ton front with 3.73's, a lockrite, the biggest tie rod ORD sells, etc. I just swapped to 1 tons, I'm not ready to sell it yet, but if/when I decide to I'll let you know.

What I did when I swapped to 3/4 ton was just get everything from the spindles out from a 3/4 ton. The only difference in a 1/2 ton 10 bolt and a 3/4 ton 10 bolt is one is 6 lug and the other is 8 lug. Then just get a 14bff. I have a friend that just brought one to the scrapyard.

You can go to Barry's and see if they have a 14 bolt. They just moved from canal rd to somewhere off of menge.

I live in Gulfport, let me know if you need a hand with anything.

Edit: Also with the airsoft BB's to balance, I'm running them and I just put one of these containers in each.

The 3/4 tons that I'm looking at have 410 gears and a locker in rear but I still think 800 is too high.

I'll check Barrys over here, I've been looking at the one in mobile.

Also, no I haven't had any issues with the d line, yet. If I don't change my gearing soon my trans is gonna go.

4.10's would still be too high geared for the 37's and the locker is probably the factor Grenade Lock thingy. SKIP!

I just got back from Barry's and they have a late 70's early 80's 3/4 ton truck over there with a 14 bolt full floater and a dana 44 with external style lockouts (but it has drive flanges on the axle). I'm not sure of there gears, I didn't have anything to take the diff cover off with. Also I couldn't get a straight price for the pair or even for one of the axles. Might be worth going to look at. Since it's a 3/4 ton the rear axle will bolt straight in without moving the perches.

I'll see if I can get over there tomorrow and pick up the rear. Then I guess I'll gave to wait on you to get rid of your front. Lol Was there anything worth using off that 44

If you want external style hubs you can take everything off of it and convert your 10 bolt over to 8 lug. If you get both the front and rear axle then you wouldn't have to worry about swapping gears if the rear is different than your front. Oh yea, they only take cash, but there's an ATM right across the parking lot at the gas station. I'll shoot you a PM with my phone number, if you need a hand text me and I might be able to meet up with you, I don't have anything planned for tomorrow.
