Lifted Duallys Post Pics

not quite your standard dually, but i like this look better.
That pretty much defeats the purpose for a dually. The idea behind a dually is it's stability from the extra rubber but mostly from the extra width. I don't think weight carrying capacity is that big of a deal because most E rated singles can handle that truck's GVWR.

This is one of 73tweakers rigs.He calls it the Rock Ape :D

Look again, it is a box on a cc DUALLY truck, most of them were worked harder than dually pickups ever thought to be with flat beds and dump boxes...

we've discussed this before, in the same thread i got the pic from.

while it wont be as stable as a full width Dana 70 dually, it is still considerably wider than a SRW truck, the extra rubber is always nice, and it looks cool to boot. my buddy Kenny has no problems pulling with his C&C 14FF under his Suburban.

Those trucks belong to Eric M. He's been a member here for quit some time. I took him some parts a few weeks ago down in San Francisco. He rolled up in the black one and that focker was clean as could be. I could not imagine driving that thing around SF all day, but I dig it. Hell even one of his workers was driving one of his work trucks that was a real clean 70's 3/4 ton. Was kinda nice to see Eric running the older stuff for His business. I guess He doesn't like to be breaking down and prefers real trucks.:D :thumb:

Read closely, I said that it defeats the purpose of a dually because it doesn't have the extra width. Besides the extra rubber on the ground I don't see any gain over an SRW truck because it's not any wider.

Wonder how a front dually setup is made? Wonder how that holds up, with all of the turning forces? I'm sure I'll probably never end up building a setup like that, but it is fascinating, none the less.
thanks,
James

(me: talking out my ass)

I would assume a D60 DRW, so it's just got the extra tire hanging off the outside. Maybe you'd need longer studs, but you would presumably be able to hang an extra wheel off the front, since the hubs are out farther and the inside set of wheels would be tucked in nice, if that all makes sense. Essentially it's just like the set in the rear, cuz the hubs stick out further than your usual K5/SRW type.

I would imagine it would be hell on turning, but not more so than running a crazy wide tire, like those Pitbulls, say, or a 16"ish Bogger or something. Dually tires are usually skinny 'cuz the wheels are only 6-7" wide, so even with the nasty offset you can't put anything huge on there.

if you were gonna run dual wheels front and rear, just buy super wide tires... on that white blazer look like 38x11. if you got 39.5x18 thats almost as wide, and alot less stress on the frontend

that's what I was kinda thinking. maybe I'll get some wide tires in the future after I wear out my tsl's.

Ditto. THis reminds me of farming. Combines sometimes run duals up front, but only if they are hardly ever in muddy conditions. The Duals on the combines just fill full of mud between the tires and cause a nasty build up and a dirty job getting it out.

Same thing would apply here...if you are running in sticky mud with duals like that they are just going to ball up in the middle, add lots of rolling weight, ruin traction for the most part from a mud donut that grows bigger than the tires, and make a fun cleanup job.:D
