"Lock Jaw" the 1979 Stepside

I had one guy I liked at the schwabs in Coos Bay, never charged me for using the whole shop to get a 16.5 tire back seated, just asked what it was going on and talked trucks for a minute.
 
We picked up a used tire machine and balancer at the new shop I work at. Just getting into the game but we are $25 a tire to mount and balance.


We already do stuff other tire shops won’t touch. Had a guy come in that was restoring a flat fender jeep and brought in 5 freshly powder coated wheels and reproduction bias ply old school off road tires. No store would touch it for fear of scratching or dealing with the bias ply sidewalls. No problem. Use tape on the rim clamps, tape on the tools and somebody that knows how to use them. One of my coworkers came from Discount tire having run a few locations. He knows how to handle them.

The thing that sucks now is these folks that run or own a tire store have kids on the machines that lack any ability to think on the job and mount stuff without screwing up a tire or wheel. So anything that is marginally difficult gets priced accordingly in hopes to not have to do it. Not condoning it but it’s kind of what the world is now.
 
Exactly, I had a tire shop tell me “I’ll do it but I don’t want bitching if it’s scratched” that’s when I started doing my own…ZM is right, they hope you’ll take it elsewhere because the kid they have working doesn’t give a shit
 
Back when I use to work for a John Deere dealer, I would go to a local independent service station here in my home town over lunch hour if I had a flat tire. I would pull up in front of a bay, walk inside and grab a jack, impact and socket. Roll the jack outside, take off the wheel, roll the tire inside and find the puncture. Take the tire off, patch it, remount it, and put the wheel back on. The entire time the owners would be sitting in the office bs'ing, never even paying attention to me. I would walk in the office when I was done, and give him a couple bucks for the patch. I always found it kind of entertaining.

It’s not that they don’t give a shit they are just clueless.

I go a mile down the road to the Hutterite colony. I’m good friends with them.
 
its been sitting for about a month, just been too dang hot. We had some nice cooler weather this weekend in the mid 80's so it was time for some yard work when we werent rodeoing.

in its natural habitat... working. trimmed the trees out at the road and hauled the branches.

So obviously the battery tray needed some work, this was after already removing one of the pieces of structural press board lol

I drilled out the spot welds and cut the fender side mounting piece off, built a new tray, waited 3 weeks because i needed a new welding bottle and didnt have time. then today welded the original tray sides to the new tray and sprayed it with rubberized coating.

So its been a while since an update and i wish i had more to post lol, in my defense it was snowed in for about a month . We got the 105 amp alt install finished, changed the leaking trans pan, new starter, ford starter solenoid, all new 2ga battery cables, auxiliary battery install almost finished, replaced the dual battery solenoid, installed resettable breakers, and mounted the gang switch relay box (have not finished wiring it).

I find that if you wrap electrical tape up the wire harness it keeps it tight and clean, not like cover the wires just a loose wrap the whole way up like the factory does the newer vehicles
