I spent too much on a few guns since November so I figured I needed to make it up with some more K5 parts and was looking for axles and found this on CL in Adel, Ga. It's a 86 and it's a little rough, but I got it for $2k...so I figured it beat paying $1200-$1500 just for axles.

I couldn't get a trailer the next day so I said screw it, I'll take a chance and endure hell driving it back. Only problem was a blown upper radiator hose and after a close enough replacement and the use of a little para cord it made the 370ish mile drive home. I'll never do it again...that many miles is a long ride going 55mph, but hey I have a set of 1 tons now. Still not sure what I'm going to do with it aside from yanking it's axles.

My parts pile is growing even though I still haven't really touched the Blazer...hopefully by spring I'll have time to throw some of the stuff on it and actually drive it.

Lemme know if you wanna part with the bumper. I'll be in Myrtle Beach for Bike Week.

Yea, you can buy it when you come down. I'm about 3 1/2hrs west of MB though. PM me if you want it though.

Swapping my 10 bolts in and selling it is what I'm leaning towards, but keeping it is a possibility too...I'll decide that later.

I think you may have a better deal than you may realize. I think you have a NP205. The millitary M1028 that have a pto winch will have a NP205. The shifter looks like a NP205 from the picture.

Good eye, I noticed that when I picked it up...one reason why I'm on the fence about just swapping axles and selling it...I want that 205 out of it too for the k5. I may have to do a little research on swapping my 208 into it so I can snag it for the k5 too. I just want to keep it drivable so I can use it or sell it if I decide to.

It will also have the trac-loc in the front. One thing that is a little strange about the CUCV NP205 is that eventhough it is an 86 model it will still have the figure 8 or racetrack patern instead of the circular 6 bolt. It will have the long input. I think that they do that so that it will use the same transmission as the TH400/NP208 (2-3/8" stickout).

I did the same thing, 1500 but mine didnt run. Its nice to know you can change fluids, move perches and bolt the axles in and go. No rebuilding, no nonsense. Great purchase!

trac lok is weak a$$ posi that dont hold up for our needs. just a fyi thay are nick named trash lok

and x2 on lookin like 205 shifter for the win

Agreed. Mine only has about 60k on it and seems to work okay as long as a tire isnt in the air. It sucks not having the option to put a lunchbox locker in there. I've heard not all 1028's got the limited slip, but I dont know if that is true or not.

So if that's the case, what would be involved in swapping my 208 from my k5 that has a 700r4? Or would I be better off leaving it in there and getting another 205 for the doubler later? I haven't really educated myself on that part yet, I plan to swap a th400 in and ditch the 700r4...but haven't looked into exactly what to use. I'm guessing a th400 setup for a 203 would be the best route, but I haven't thought about the differences in 205's yet.

I assumed the 60 would be open, didn't know about the trac lok possibly being in it. I was thinking about an arb for the front especially since I got a deal on this truck and if I resell it, put that cash towards it.

To swap the 700R4/NP208 into the M1028 you would need a 6.2 TV cable bracket and a diesel torque converter. You will probably have to change the flexplate. I think the 700R4 uses the small patern.

To swap the TH400/NP205 into your blazer, you would need a gas torque converter, a gas modulator gear and the kick down switch off of the accelerator pedal of the M1028. Some gas flexplates have dual patern flexplates. If yours only has the small one you will have to switch to a large patern flex plate.

If you do the doubler make sure to get the right shaft for your doubler. If you tell them it's an '86 they will send you a kit for a round patern NP205 and a long input. If you tell them it is a figure 8 or race track patern they will assume it is a short imput. Yours should be a figure 8 with a long input. But make sure before you order one.

Unless you just need the money from the sale I think I would find a set of 3/4 tons to throw back in that truck and keep it. If it is mechanically sound it would make an awesome work truck or back up rig if you needed it.
