Came across a 1996 Suburban 3/4 ton with a 4wd GM replacement tranny and a 7.4 just rebuilt by a well thought of machine shop with all of the receipts.

I can buy the truck pretty cheap because when you turn the key the fuel rails make a hissing noise and won't start. It starts to fire, but not quite.

I would install it in one of The two k5 I have.

Ideas and thoughts?

Check the fuel pressure.

For the swap it's a lot of wiring to remove old EFI harness and install harness from donor truck, fuel pump upgrade. Then a re-flash of PCM to remove what's not needed. Having both complete trucks makes for nice swap!

Are you thinking the pressure is too high and that is why it is making the bleeding sound or it is too low?

I'm thinking it's out of fuel! :D

It's the only time I have heard a hissing noise from a fuel rail.

But could be bad pump or? Real easy as they have a schrader valve to hook up fuel opressure gauge, turn key on and should be 40ish pressure for 2 seconds, then off till crank and run should be 43.5. (Check for actaul pressure for that engine)
