I have a 99 silverado half ton. 5.3l/4l60e/np246. Love the truck, only real issue that Ive ever had is the t case. Id try and stay away from the np246 (pushbutton, autotrac) they have issues. Ill be replacing mine for the second time here shortly, truck has 99k miles and rarely ever gets put in 4 wheel drive. Would like a lift but dont want the IFS headaches and wear and tear they cause on front end of these trucks. Just my opinion.
rough country has a nice kit for the price as much as i dont realy care for them . and its a NO torsion bar drop kit also . cleaner and faster install time.
If it does have the 246 t case, drivetrain.com has parts and info pertaining to what goes wrong and how to fix it before it happens. Aluminum pump rubs magnesium case resulting in a hole in the case and also leads to bearing failures I believe. Ill be trying out a t case from them, hopefully its the last one I put in the truck. Other than that I love the truck.
Interesting, I hadn't seen those kits from RC. I wonder how the ride quality etc. is for these trucks. Also if you run into the same issues as with other lifts.
Guess I havent looked at lifts for a while now on these trucks. Was thinking of doing a leveling kit, but have even heard bad things about the ride quality and excessive wear and tear with those. So it has stayed stock and low for a 4x4 lol
with nuckle lifts now and no torsion bar drop its a lot better than the old days.
and level kits still suck as thay make the ride stiffer on torsion bar trucks as your just over cranking the bars and riding on the upper bump stops that stop over droping the front suspension so its metal on metal on the upper a-arms.
the coil strut trucks / suv's use a bolt in spacer on top or bottom mounting of strut so it wont screw with spring rates and ride quality.
and if you have a diesel than skip the body lifts as there is way to much to modify and play with on these vehicles. heck i cant recall the last body lift i installed . . . prob few years now. got one coming out of my truck here next year when i redo it.
