got pics of racks along with manufacturer links or olans for home made?
Looking for only aftermarket ones, or stock as well?
The blazer brochures on slosh.com I *think* have some pictures of the stock racks, at least for a couple of the years.
Who is the guy that had the rack extend down the sides of the shell? Really rare design..... I think it was a Red Blazer and the rack was chrome 2 or 3" tube.....
Do you have to reinforce the shell to carry the loads?
How does it attach to the shell, drilled and bolted?
Mine attaches by 4 "rain gutters" with 2 bolts and nuts with each. The rack then is clamped on the rail gutters. It seems to be very sturdy. Its all about how you distrubte the weight.
Bought it from a guy a while ago. Not sure if its homebuilt, or aftermarket or what. No plans, no manufacturer... sorry I cant tell ya more. It attaches by sliding in under the hardtop and bolts to the rail with the hardtop.
Here is a custom fab
My pic on CK5
Check out my other pics. I have some of the truck before the revamp job.
The rack holds a 3ft. shovel on the pass. side and a 60" hi-lift jack on the driver's side.
I had to take it off, b/c I was going on some wheeling trips that had tight trails.
One other thing, It measures the same as the fiberglass top.
Man that looks nice...
I think I'll put one on the 75 but I'll have to fab up something like Thumpers deal so I can do it with a soft top.
I am thinking about putting one on my Sub. We will be using it as a tow rig and we plan to bring bikes with us. How bad is it going to look of a 3/4 2wd Sub to have a rack?
No need to reinforce the rack for most loads. I think that capacity is in the 275-300 # range.
It attaches to the shell with well nuts, with seem to hold it very well. I haven't had a problem. The well nuts are 1/2", they don't go all the way thru the shell and provide a waterproof seal. Came with the rack.
I'd like to put something like that on my burb /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
I like the idea of having a rack mounted like Thumpers, even without a soft top. Probably could throw more weight up there too (not that I need ANY more weight added to my truck)
I think a conferr rack would look just fine on a Sub. The one I have covers the entire length of the shell and is only mounted on the shell part. The same length on your sub should cover everything behind the rear door I believe. That'd look cool. Plus the rack is substantial so doesn't look wimpy up there.
Shagnaz - Nice lookin truck! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The guy that I got mine from used to carry a 12' aluminum boat on it. So I guess it can carry a fair bit.
