truck is stock. just went over it and put it back on the road. few days back felt like i was losing power. everything seemed ok. late last night going up a hill. 1 gear, kinda high rpm. did only about 15mph. so got off the main road and was towed home.

ideas?? was thinking i might not be getting fuel.

thanks

Sounds like the tranny is slipping if the RPM's are high and your going no where. If you were not getting fuel your RPM's would drop as the motor died.

really ok, motor did die when i was gassing up and had to hit the breaks hard.

Did you mean to say you were down in 1st gear?

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Based on that it does not sound like the tranny was slipping......1st gear at 15 mph is going to be a fairly high rpm.

My '90 definitely loses power if you let the fuel filter go too long (especially if you get a "bad" tank of fuel). Even if you can't really notice it at the time (real gradual power loss over time), I've replaced the filter during normal maintenance and notice an increase in power.

Also make sure none of the fuel lines are leaking.

ok thanks, found out this truck has been sitting with full tank of fuel for 3 or so years before i go it.

I think you should give serious consideration to draining the tank. Change the fuel filters as well.

really? ok. i was going to add 10 gallons of fresh diesel and some additive. is it bad for the pump?

I just hear a lot about diesels being picky about clean fuel. There is lots of spooge that will grow in diesel and you probably have a lot of water separation in that tank as well. 3 years is a loooong time for diesel.

How willing are you to take a chance your fuel will plug something up or crap out and leave you stranded somewhere?

Mixing in fresh fuel might work but I've got no idea on what ratio to use.

Old fuel can be hard on seals IIRC, old plugged up filters can be hard on injector pumps and injectors as crap gets by and plugs them up instead.

I would probably also change the filter again after maybe a couple hundred miles of driving or at least after you run through one tank with the new fuel and filter, simply because there will still be some old fuel in the lines and maybe junk in the tank.
