So decided to figure out why I have been adding tranny fluid lately. Not a lot on the ground but seem to be losing some. Decided to pull the fill plug off of the t-case thinking it might be slightly overfilled due to the extra tranny fluid I've been adding lately.

Well, that was a huge under estimation! Pulled the plug and it literally shot out of the t-case!

So, now.....what is the fix? I would think the tranny is leaking through the output shaft and into the t-case. Is there a seal that's bad on the tranny or is it the input seal on the t-case??

1st thing you want to do is check the vent on the Trans. If it is plugged the pressure will find the weakest seal and push pressure through. then drain and refill t case, check trans level, you might not need to replace seal.

Buy an oil pan too Jeff!

I certainly wasn't expecting that much fluid! I had my oil catch pan under the suburban diff. I was changing the rear diff and figured, while I'm waiting, I'll just investigate the blazer. WAY more fluid that I ever expected. Just sat there....watching it pour out helplessly. :)

These things are really best to do in a sloped driveway

OK, got the t-case out. Although the rubber seal looks pretty decent, is that the only seal to replace? Or should I also do the housing seal too? Can I do that housing seal without cracking the case? I just removed the 4 bolts but have not tried to separate yet.

Well, I just went to re-look at the crack spot you pointed out.....

Amazing eyes! I ran a paperclip across it and sure enough, there is a crack. Looks like I can just get a new seal. Thanks!

I assume I can pry it out or should I remove the 4 bolts and pry off the housing for the seal?

I'd pull that seal retainer, as far as you've already gone. I fresh tube of Right stuff or Ultra black will fix that seal retainer up nice with a new seal

put a small hole in metal portion of seal body thread in a sheet metal screw and pry seal out with diagonal cutters. use 2 or 3 if needed.

I see two different gaskets. The one from Napa I can get same day. The other one looks like I need to order in. Will the Napa one work? On back of tranny I see why two rings but nothing is in that void requiring the cut outs.

Just want to add an extra layer of sealing protection obviously.
