My 1987 decided that it did not want to unlock and the little part that keeps it from spinning broke off. It was a plastic screw on type from Gant (sp). We just took a hammer and screw driver. Hit the hammer on the outer plastic and broke it off. That left the inner screw in part in neck. I then took a pair of large channel locks and took it out.
I remember it seems like GM sold some that used a magnet shaped thing wonder how they lasted or worked. The one I had was less than a year old.
