Hey y'all........please help!!!!!!

Have an 83 K5 with a 305...Yesterday I had a major backfire......tons of smoke from the tail pipes.......when I check engine there is oil everywhere. Ran engine and found oil literally spurting out of what appears to be a bolt hole on the front of the block down near the fuel pump. Do I have a cracked block behind this hole, or is there supposed to be some sort of gasket/bolt in that hole?

Please help me figure this one out!!!
Thanks,
BEAR

You may have thrown a rod. Is there water in with all the leaking oil? Have you tried turning the crank manually? Was there a bunch of noise after the backfire or did it continue to run?

That bolt hole goes through to the fuel pump push rod. You put a long bolt through it to hold the push rod up when you change the fuel pump. You need to put a short one with some rtv on it in there to plug it. Don't know what the back fire had to do with it, maybe it was pluged by old rtv and the backfire jared it loose.

thanks for the info......much rather be missing a bolt than have thrown a rod........btw, what is rtv?
