Major oil leak!!!

That's what I think. To lose 1qt in one week going 150 miles, you would think you could see it. Like I said I will check again tonight and see if I see anything new. Thanks again to all with the input.

When I got home tonight I found the rear intake leaking real good. I took everything off and unhooked everything on the intake so I can drain the coolant and pull it off in the morning. When I reinstall the bolts, should I coat them with some rtv or I have some of the liquid teflon thread sealer to use? I bought some Right Stuff for the ends instead of the rubber ones. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Clean up those bolts and inspect them before putting them back on. It would suck if one broke off in the head upon reinstallation. Dont put anything on the threads, it will not leak through the bolts. Be very liberal with the right stuff to avoid any future leaks.

I have always put just a tad of black RTV on the intake bolts with no problems, mainly because some of them go into water jackets and the four center ones always seemed to gather oil over time on the intake. Like I said though, just a tad, enough to just barely coat the threads, not enough to displace and goup out everywhere.

And yes, inspect them, replace any wore out ones, corroded ones and use a wire brush to clean them off real good.

All done boys. It sure fills good doing a $600 job yourself. The only problem I have now is that I fill the oil a bit too much and my seal on my dipstick is so old and gone that I had some oil come out the oil dipstick tube. Do any of you know if you can get the rubber piece that goes in the end of the oil dipstick? Other than that all turn out great so far. The water hookup at the rear of the intake that has a quick disconnect leaked a little one I started it, but it stopped soon after.

Sounds like your PCV valve is stopped up or you have some serious blow-by issues. Replace that PCV valve and see if that doesn't help some. :waytogo:

Also, you can try this before your next oil change.

1: Pull out the spark plugs

2: Using a squirt can, pump some Marvel Mystery Oil into the cylinders.

3: Crank the motor over a couple times with the plugs still out (sprays oil out, may want to hang rags over the holes)

4: Put a little more oil in and let it sit over night.

5: Crank the motor over in the morning to blow out any extra oil and reinstall the plugs/wires

6: Change the engine oil/filter and crank it up!

It'll smoke like the devil for a few minutes till it gets burnt out of the cat, but it usually helps to break up any carbon on the rings and "blow" them out against the cylinder walls to help get them sealing again.

Get rid of the quick connect on intake and get a threaded connection from Autozone and some new hose. You're asking for trouble with that thing.

PVC is ok, clean and good vacume. Not much oil has come out of the dipstick tube, I still feel it was because I overfilled it a bit. Normally I don't have a problem with that unless I top it off a little to much. I'll keep an eye on it. I've used seafoam not that long ago to decarb the engine. As for the water connection, it's not leaking, but I will replace it with a different one later on when I get a little time. Thanks to all of you for the added insight.

FYI, for those of you have have a dipstick that has the rubber part gone, just use some Right Stuff to make a new one. I put some of the right stuff in the cap and put it back on the tube to dry. I lubed of the tube with some oil to help minimize the adheasion to the tube. I let it dry overnight and it pulled right off and it seals real good.
