Manual glow plug controller....need some help with this

I know very little about wireing. My cucv m1009 i have had nothing but problems with as some of you might know. Well, of corse i thought it was fixed and the same problem comes back. So i would like to go past the cucvs wiring and use Manual glow plug controller. Sounds like the way to go. So can anyone give a good way to go about this? As always thanks for the help

Well I just have a 70's ford starter solenoid in my system, glowplug wires on 1 side, batt wire on other, button in the dash going to the switching terminal. works great.

i don't know the correct way to do it, but you just need to run power from the terminal closest to the large terminal which has the orange wires coming off of it (the latter is the terminal which points to the back of the truck).
thus, if you put a push button connection between them, you're set.

i understand there's a blue wire somewhere which can be grounded using a push button and this will work... this is the correct way, i think. i could never find said blue wire myself, but then my wiring is a rats nest thanks to the PO.

The elusive blue wire..

The blue wire you need to ground to activate the glow plug relay is located in a two prong plug on top of the glow plug relay..just strip off some insulation and add another wire to it,don't dissconnect it..run that wire to a push button switch,and ground the other terminal on the switch..

That is how I by-passed my 82 K20's glow plug controller--I also pulled the connector off the controller and taped it up to keep moisture out,so there was no way the glow plugs could come on automatically again.

It might be wired differently on military trucks ,I haven't had any experience with those that are 24V...you may need to do like K204dr did on those types of trucks..

Ok so I run a wire off the blue wire to a switch then to the ground? And that turns the glowplugs on? When you do that does the light in the dash come on?

Yes, the light comes on as long as the button is pushed.

I use the seat belt light as my timer, it stays on about 8 or 9 seconds.

Alright, this isnt the relay is it?

no thats just the power junction on the firewall. the relay is probably on the engine, sorta below that. it could also be on the inner fender on the driver side.

yeah i found it, and i tapped in to the blue wire, I can hear them turn on but the wait light doesnt come on

yes, he is doing it on a cucv. I have my cucv set up the same way. when you hit the button the wait light is not suppose to come on. but the wait ligth will function as normal. just hold the button until the light goes out and then release and start the truck.
