So can someone walk me through installing a manual glow plug switch on my 89 K5?

Getting tired of the (slightly improved) situation with the (brand new AC Delco) gp controller working when it wants to.

The easy way is too get a ford starter relay and run a second circuit to the glow plug side of the gp relay with a push button switch.

Have a diagram for this? I have a hard time converting written directions to actual physical devices.

I don't have a diagram. I could describe it on the phone or maybe sketch one and email or fax it, It is pretty simple design. Let me know if you need any of this.

Actually, a simple ground wire hooked up to a switch is the simplest way to go. I just forget which wire you need to hook it to at the controller.

This is what I've got - no controller at all. Note that while the diagram doesn't show it you should have fuses installed where appropriate.

I connected the indicator light wire to the GP harness at the solenoid junction - that at least lets me know the power is making it that far.

I've got Kennedy Diesel glow plugs which are self-limiting and get hotter faster than AC 60G plugs. My setup works like a charm - glow for 5 seconds and then hit the starter first thing in the morning.

On the 89 model, the gp light is inline with the plugs and glows when the glow plugs are active.

Since this won't work on an 85', how do i wire a push button in and still have the controller work? and yes i have the 60 gp's. Thanks

Somebody gave me a diagram over on the diesel page but I haven't even touched this yet. Seems like as it gets colder it gets more reliable. WTF!?

I actually did some searching on here and found that if i wire in a 10ohm 2 watt resister on the wire that enters the "c" terminal on the controller(this is for the the 85' and up yrs) it makes the cycles longer with the first one being around 10 to 12 seconds, which is perfect for the 60g gp's. Hopefully i can do this in the next week or so and i will write in on how it works.

After searching all over i finally found the right resistor. I soldered it in tonight and it worked just as planned. First cycle is 12 sec. then the next is roughly 6 sec.
