Hey, I was thinkin' about running some 10.00-20s on my blazer or dually 4x4.

http://www.denmantire.com/catalog/17.pdf

The tire store says they're for an ol skool lockring wheel and are not comaptible with my donk aluminum 20" 8lug pickup wheels.

BUT I have 20" Michelin military surplus tires on right now. The have a wider bead area, but it doesn't seem to be an issue.

Pardon the bling/donk wheels, the tires were cheap and so were the wheels.

Anyone have the scoop on lock ring tires vs new style?

The tire store is correct--the medium duty tires have too stiff a sidewall/bead area, they will have to be mounted on a two-piece rim.
The 395's you are running now are not really safe, if it weren't for the heavy bead, they would not stay seated. In fact, if you blead them down to say, 6-7 psi, they would unseat very easily.
There are medium duty tires made with the MPT or light truck style bead in larger sizes:
12.5R20 (40.7" tall)
14.5R20 (44.6" tall)

These tires are available Military Surplus, and are designed to fit your Donk rims.

I see what you mean that's prety much what I though but I wasn't super worried about it for offroad use. Just like the 16.5s with no safety bead, just don't air 'em down.

I run them at 15psi off road only. I think they burp air sometimes at 10, but don't come off.

Just curious but what prompted this consideration?

There's still plenty of 11.00R20 and other large size truck military tires showing up on the market and they'd all be light years better for our uses than those Denman tires.

Where?! I want some more for my Dodge...SoCal.

The Denman traction tires look pretty beefy.

EDIT: I was momentarily braindead...I need 1100 16s for my Dodge. The 20s were just a thought.

They've had a brief resurgence lately. Some have popped up on Ebay and Steel Soldiers recently after I thought they were all gone. The 325/85R16's are showing up too. Tempted by those...no money or space though...

I like to get 'em on govliquidation. cheeeeaaaap but you gotta have a shop with press crane forklift to remove the wheels/runflats.

I think the GL sales of the 11.00R16's are done. However the 325/85R16's should continue to filter out onesy-twosey as they're what replaced the 11.00R16's on the Marine Corps LAV's.

Bummer. 1100s are good on the dodge.

Yeah they do but I'd bet you could fit the 325/85R16's too. They'd be about 1-1.5" wider and the same height.

They're my hoped for next set of tires after these wear out...or more like rot off.

I have some 325s. Tried them. Too chunked from the blazer in the sharp granite. And the width wouldn't be conducive to mileage...and I don't have wheels wide enough to run them on the street (wobbly handling on skinny wheels on heavy truck) ...and a bud is borrowing them for fitment on his proyect.

My Dodge has NO problem wearing any tire out fast. Too much weigh, too much power. BUT it's a fun truck! :eek1::D

Jimbo, do you know if there are civvy street or A/T-tread medium duty tires, say 7.50-20 that will fit the donk bead?

I was thinking about running SRW 19.5s on my Dodge, but the wheels and tires are $$$!

Dude, that thing is gnarly!

How about something smaller and less aggressive though. Like maybe 37" tall? 7.5 or 8.00 R20???

I'll check out Continental.

Do a yahoo image search for them. Some art guy has them on his 'dooty.

They're expensive.

I don't see a big issue running medium duty tires on donk wheels. Mine have worked great except at low psi. Your results may vary! :wink1:

I'd like to run a 7.50 or 8.00 R20 mild tread on the dodge.

19.5" SRW truck wheels are $262.00:eek1: and 20" donks are $125. I'll bet 20" tires are cheaper too if I could find some.
