Meet "Murphy" the '84 K5

And look what else I found! I don't think I mentioned before, but the original blue truck had 60,000 miles on it when I bought it in '05, and I was the third owner. Originally bought in the very same town. I'm not sure it ever left the state.

Getting reorganized post-build, I found all the original purchase paperwork for it. Warranty was just a bit expired, but original manuals and service paperwork and everything, all from 1984! (thats a long time ago now)

thanks! its actually like a pistol/range bag I think, but it was a solid fabric, reasonably priced and lots of pockets, so I figured it'd work! cheaperthandirt had it, if you're interested.

I'll have to get a picture with all the stuff out and next to it. tons of gear!

rear tire/jack/can carrier bumper should be shipping this week!

and here they are! well, just one of the bumper really. I had time to snap one quick pic (sans cans). more tomorrow.

bolted right up, super sturdy. balanced out the truck a bit. the pins are something like 1 1/4" for the pivot points! so hinged on one side, secured on the other, should make for minimal wiggle developement.

got a box of cool toys to go along with the jack and such too. more pics and info tomorrow!

second pic: Finally got my rear hubs covered in black instead of chrome.

Sweet! Get some angle shots of the bumper, from the side and more from the front of the rig. How much was it inlcuding shipping to your house?

Thanks! I will get you some pics Deuling :waytogo:

It cost as advertised on their website, plus all the accessories, powdercoating and such. it all ended up right in the neighborhood of $2k all said and done. which is really fair for what you get if you look at the competition. and the folks at offroadltd are top notch to work with. I wouldn't have even known about them if they didn't sponsor blazer bash! another thanks due to CK5.

can't take truck pics in the dark, but here's some of the other fun stuff I got.
hilift offroad base
hilift parts kit
hilift bumper hook
super beefy shackles

Thanks fellas! It really balanced out the truck, lots smoother going down the road. Some neat design aspects too. For instance, the pins ride on bushings instead of just against the bumper! I think the thinnest metal on this thing is 1/8, pretty beefy.

I especially like the pic where you can see the headliner :waytogo:

Thanks! It's been good to me so far! I can undertand how if you need to get in through the tailgate frequently and have a hard top how these kinds of bumpers could be a pain, but most everything I haul around daily fits in the front and the softtop makes for easy access over the sides. :waytogo:

going to install an HD fan clutch. the radiator works great, but I think it could use some back up when the truck gets into more serious work.

also, I've got an entire insulation kit from LMC that I have no use for anymore. Expect to see that on the boards soon!

Thanks Brandon H!

Deuling, I just ordered those needles, thanks for the tip I'm sure they'll work great.

Going to install an HD fan clutch and if the needles and carb rebuild kit can get here in time, install those and go find a little mud this weekend!

The world is less scary now that I have the equipment to change a tire

Thanks Brandon H!

When messing with the carb, dont forget to hook the brake vacuum line back up when messing with float heights :doah::haha:(hey thats a good one for that one thread...) lol

Ah yes, the sadly familiar voice of experience, I know it well :D ...thanks man.

Got the HD fan clutch installed. not that ya'll haven't seen pictures of a fan clutch before, but here is one anyway :waytogo: .....the new radiator made the biggest difference, getting me up big hills in hot weather with the gauge only reading a needle or two above 210. the addition of the HD fan clutch made it so I'm a needle or two UNDER 210 (not far from the tstat temp really) going up the same hills in the same heat. win.

also, finally snapped a pic of the rear panels. just the particle board with some outdoor brownish carpet being held together by the 3M glue for laying down laminate. nothing fancy, but they do the job and cost all of $50 to make.
