older or newer? and whats your fav?
Older,,Creeping Death,,,Master of Puppets
Older, deffently older. Everything before the black album.
Older, most definately.........................................
The older stuff is an example of them exercising and stretching their minds into the realm of "how far can we go and how can we get there." Now, it just seems like they are just sitting around and putting stuff out just to keep their names there. That's not to say that the new stuff isn't any good, I'll listen to it and I like it, but the older stuff is where the creative process was expanded beyond the realm...................................
Orion and Battery are a couple of my faves!!
Any album before the black album is killer.......Makes me wanna grow the mullet back, grab the leather, and start smoking again
Older for sure. Just like everyone said, before the Black album.
I was the only puerto rican metal head in my highschool.
Only a couple good songs from Load and ReLoad (real imaginative titling there, guys...). St. Anger sucked chrome from trailer hitch balls.
The Call of Ktulu.
Harvester of Sorrow.
Overkill. Yeah, I know it's a Motorhead song, but their cover just tears it up...
older no doubt!!!
and what do you guys have against the black album. IMHO some of their best.
Older. I saw them with G&R years ago and again abnout 2 years ago. Still one hell of a live show.
All of it
I was listening to them yesterday and noticed a trend off of hard roking to smooth kind fo bluesy songs.
St. Anger sounded like an Ep they would sell at a smalltown punk show, wayyyyyyyyyy underproduced and badly mixed.
I'll listen to the newer stuff too, but they seem to have lost their feel for it since the black album. When I was driving truck a few years ago, I left home with only the St. Anger CD I listened to it for 6 weeks straight, till I got back home, I just recently found it buried at the bottom of the endless mountain that is my CD collection.
I'm told from a person I know that has their ear to the "Metallica" ground that the album that is in the works now is gonna have a little more feel to it, than St. Anger, take that for what it is.
anything up to the point of the black album, then it gets kinda scetchy. love Fuel, and I Dissapear. recently found the S&M set on clearance at a music store. its a little different, and the more ahrdcore fan may not enjoy it as much. with my diverse taste in music, its one of my favorites.
The Older Stuff Is Better.... But Whiskey In A Jar Is My Favorite (even Though Its A Cover) Followed In A Close Second By Blackend
Kill Em All will always rule... Particularly The Four Horsemen and their cover of Diamondhead's Am I Evil...
Haven't paid much attention after the Black album...
I love most of their stuff...St. Anger is by far the worst...I cant even listen to it...
I love their cover of The Misfits "Die Die My Darling"
Got into 'em about 1984.. hated the black album, and most everything after that. Why? no balls, plain & simple.
Although their old stuff aped british metal, it still kicked ass. especailly liked the sabbath and mercyful fate covers.
Saw them open for motorhead in 85, open for ozzy on the puppets tour, then with GNR at three rivers stadium in the early 90's, and on their own during the ' load ' tour.. I feel for the people that didn't pay attention to them 'till the black album.. they missed the real metallica.
Definitely different. I personally liked the "S&M" album... but a couple of the songs just didn't work real well IMO.
I love the S.F. Symphony's version of Morricone's "The Ecstasy of Gold" that S&M opens with - way more powerful than the other versions I've heard.
