milemarker 12k winch

I like my E12000. I don't know if I'd buy an ES12000.

I bought my E12000 over a year ago. Paid $700 to my door with a snatch block.

I cut 20' off the cable and fixed the inherent flaw: not enough room on the drum for 100' of cable.

I've never stalled it. Even with two batteries the winch will pull the voltage down so far that the solenoids will disengage. If you keep your finger on the button the voltage will go back up and then engage... then disengage... you get the idea.

Usually by the time the winch gets warm to the touch both of my batteries are taxed anyway.
 
I would rather have my beatup old Warn 12K anyday then a new Milemarker any day. The only 2 mainstream winch makers that I would actually pay hard earned money for are Warn and Ramsey in that order.

Not on a regular basis. Keep it in the front receiver of the Blazer. If I need to move it to the back, it's easily done. If I need it on the dually, pull a pin and put it on that truck. If I want it on the suburban, move it over there. Not like I plan on lugging the damn thing around on a daily basis. :haha:

If I break it, I'll take it back to 4WP and have them swap it out for a new one, or give me credit towards a Warn.

Or, as I said before, I'll buy two of the MMs for the price of one Warn so if one breaks I can use the other one. And when I get back to civilization I can swap out the broken one.

While most of you probably use and abuse the hell out of your winches, mine will probably see only a minimum amount of work. I have found more often than not that I want a winch to move something around the yard, pick up a tree, or to pull something onto a trailer. I think my $535 investment will probably work just fine what I will mainly be using it for.

If I had a truck like Root's (i.e. 1,000HP and huge Boggers) then I can imagine I would want a giant Warn winch and nothing less. If you can manage to get that damn thing stuck, it's gonna take a sh!tload of effort to get it out!

I think you know what I mean. 600 bucks or so on a MM that will eventually break if you use it alot and hard, just to spend the 1k on a Warn that will do its job for good. Now you are out 1600 bucks for a winch system. With a 600 dollar door stop. Just my opinion. I have one buddy that has a 12k MM on his jeep, hardly ever uses it unless a truck with a warn is not around because he knows it won't last if he uses the hell out of it.

Like I said, I'm sure it will be just fine for what I am using it for. If not, back to 4wp for warranty trade out. Helps to have friends working there.
 
Not interested in a pissing contest here. You will find out what I'm talking about the hard way. As for a parts warranty exchange, alot of good that will do you when you're stuck.
No offense, I don't think that the China made plastic pot metal winches are worth the money. That is just my opinion and nothing else. If you like them and they work for you great.
 
I'm not getting worked up about any of this by any means. 9 times out of 10 I've used a tow strap instead of a winch. Considerably faster, and from my experience often more effective. Maybe that's why I have 5 tow straps, and this is my first winch to buy. :dunno:
If I get stuck and break the winch, I'll just resort to the tow straps that have always worked for me. In fact, I've had more experiences in which a tow strap worked in recovering a vehicle where a winch was unable to. And yes, it was a Warn winch. ;)

tow straps are cool but they stress alot more parts... I remember blowing my motor up.. literally threw a piston out the bottom.... trying to pull someone out.... guy came with a winch.... few minutes he was out.... :haha:
 
I remember spending 5 hours baking in the sun in 100 degree heat trying to dig my buddies pathfinder out of the mud using his winch and a lifted Grand Cherokee (old school 6,000lb GVW bastard) as an anchor. We pulled the Cherokee backwards. Then we pulled it sideways. Then we buried it to the frame and tried to pull out the Pathfinder, but the Cherokee came out instead of the Pathfinder. Then a guy in a 1/2 ton Chevy came along and yanked the pathfinder out in 5 minutes. Not saying winches don't have their place. But, after that I became a huge tow-strap fan! :haha:
 
never used their electric ones. I have the 10.5k hydro one- and it works good.

My thought was, hydro front, electric rear- hydro to get you through the crap, electric to get you out of crap that you really wouldnt get through in the front.

only needed it twice-scarily enough, the second time I used it for over 10 consecutive pulls with my truck and a truck tow strapped behind me. it was slow going, but it never gave out!

Hydro is best if you have a diesel. Second for a TBI/TPI. And I dont recommend it with a carb, cause if your engine stalls, there goes your winch. :doah:

that is my plan.. electric rear ... and hydro mm12k front.... possibly on an electric pump.... so yeah.. if yer running it will work and if ya die.. it can still work.. you may be 5' from the exit of the hole.. or 200' back... and with 90' of cable... i wouldnt be able to go back!!!!! :haha:

They probably have to be because they are made for the military. Most defense contracts require everything be made in USA so that in the event of war we're not stuck because we can't get foreign parts.
 
has anyone used the milemarker 8000 or 9000# winches, i have heard plenty of bad stuff about the 12,000 but not much about the other electric ones i think in the milemarker video the the 8000 pulled like 10,000 b4 it stalled are the 8,000 or 9,000 milemarkers any better than the 12

They are so close in price I think people just buy the 12k.
 
yea i was just wondering if mabey the 8 or 9 might hold up better cus i have heard of the case breakin alot on the 12 and seeing as the 8 pulls more than its rated for so does the 12 and posibly that is why the case is breaking
 
No, they are worse. Those came out first and quickly earn a bad rep, then the 12k came out with the same problems.

Do you run this winch off the stock steering pump or a dedicated pump(pto, electric..)? I have this same winch from a humvee sitting under my house. The solenoids are still 24 volt, so I'd have to change them to 12. I 'was' going to sell it and get an electric because I want to run hydro-assist steering and I have hydroboost so it would be better to run a dedicated pump. Didn't really want to go through all that. You're the only person I've heard of that has this winch on a civilian truck lol. Thanks for any insight you can give.
 
I got an 8000# MM (that's what the HF winchs are) and I use it on a multi-mount. I like it for the $$, sure it's slow as HELL, but it's NEVER let me down. (even on my 6000#+ 'Burb) I got it for $299 new + $24 for the LIFE TIME WARENTY :D I would MUCH rather have that for that price than a WARN, or any other for that mater. And yes, I still cary a "More Power Puller" just incase it fails, but I haven't had to use the puller yet :waytogo:
