more about the 14 bolt...

brought it home today. out of a one ton, so perches and shock mounts have to be moved. there's some rust in the diff, it's been sitting for a long time.

    1. the ring gear had 9.14 stamped on it. did GM offer a 4.56 gear in '80, on one ton crew cabs? (the math comes out to 4.555555555555555555555555555555555555555555)

    2. what seals, bearings and such would you guys replace before stuffing it under the truck?

    3. the tub under the perch had pitting on it from rust, ~5mm at the worst...

    4. since the shock brackets are going, i've seen some sweet hoop setups for the rear, can anyone direct me to a URL showing diagrams and such?

    5. do you fellas re-use your old perches, or fab new ones, or buy new ones? where from?

    6. any of you that have welded your spiders, any updates from you?

thanks once again for the pick-and-probe!

To answer #1 yes 4.56 was offered.

For the perches and hoops try this url and go to "rear suspension"

Steve had a write up on the shock hoops somewhere on this site you might try to find it.
