Ok, I'm getting close to actually diving into this. Got a few questions I haven't really been able to find the answer to.

What I'm looking for is, how do you integrate some of the stock wiring components from the original harness (wipers, AC, etc.) into the new harness? Just go through the old harness and delete all of the old engine connections?

Then, are you able to pin in the starter to the bulkhead connector?

Mainly, I guess, I'm looking to see how you guys finished up the wiring aside from the engine harness itself.

I will be doing mine this week so its not actually done yet, but soon. My engine harness needs constant power, ignition power, and start signal from the truck. on my truck (80) pin 6(ppl) on the bulkhead connector will be start signal, so Ill use that lead. Pin 3 is the ignition lead to the distributor. so that will be my ignition. Constant power will come from the battery. The truck gets power from the old starter post, ill just run that wire to the battery itself. I will then thin the factory engine harness of everything I no longer need and be done with it. My stand alone harness also has leads for fan control and tach and all that jaz that will be hooked up accordingly, Not to any factory stuff though.

Here are the wiring diagrams.
 
Mines done almost exactly like he is referring to, I did connect the starter lead in the harness to the original purple starter wire coming out of the firewall junction block. Are you planning on reworking the harness yourself? If so I would look into the fuse blocks that current performance sells, kinda pricey but soo nice.

I planned to send it out but Ive been looking at lt1swap a lot lately, trying to figure things out, and I might try to tackle it myself. Not sure. Lots of good info on there. My brain has a hard time with electrical concepts so I need the "LS Wiring for Dummies" version of things.
 
So isn't there any special tool needed to remove the wires from the bulkhead? Or are y'all just cutting and reconnecting?
 
It's really not that bad, the lt1swap pinouts make it simple.

Looking through lt1swap some more while at work today and I think I'm going to go ahead and give the harness mod a try. Be prepared for a lot more questions and picture requests! :whistle: :rotfl:
 
Now that I'm actually doing it. the hooking it up to the truck part is really really easy. once You get the old engine out and you take the loom off of the harness, the wires all make sens. like I said before. The starter wire goes to the start input on the new harness. ignition, comes from the old distributor wire. power comes from the battery. if you want to use the stock wiring for the oil and temp gauges then those are there too.

I think once I've identified everything it will be less daunting. It was the same for the old engine. Just looking under the hood was intimidating, but once I went through and familiarized myself with everything it became much more comfortable.

I work in healthcare so everything I'm doing in the garage is a "learn as I go" adventure! Haha! This site has been invaluable!
 
Yep, I used a cruise control module from a early 2000 s10 blazer, only thing it needs from the pcm is vss. Rest of the wiring comes from the brake light switch, and cruise control buttons on the turn signal stalk.
 
Yeah, I look forward to doing this again. This time it's with the blazer, which has all it's chassis wiring. When I did the 68, it was from scratch and I was super anal about hiding what wires I could etc.

Only tough part now is finding the funds for another drivetrain. :D
 
Yeah all my chassis wiring is still good so no point in doing a full rewire. That'd be a nightmare.

This guy has some pretty helpful videos. It's on par with "LS Wiring for Dummies". :D

I see an ORD crossmember. Is this a SB or BB crossmember? Also, what oil pan are you using?

It's a big block as that's what they recommend and I didnt want to chance it. I'm using a regular truck pan. I have roughly 3/4" between the pan and the Crossmember using their comp motor mounts. The closest spot is probably 1/2"
