I would really like to find a way to mount my spare tire outside the truck. It takes up too much space inside, and I like the look on the outside. Has anyone adapted a bronco mount? That's what I'm looking for. I've seen some bumpers that have what looks like a sissy bar on them to mount the tire, but I don't like that look.

As far as the bronco adaptation goes, I figure it shouldn't be too hard to attach the carrier to the side of the truck, but I'm not sure about securing it to the tailgate. Anyone done this?

Something like this (sorry for the ford picture...)

Carrier

I think (no expert here) depending on the tire you want to carry a set up like that would be too heavy for the sheet metal. I've tried to adapt a aftermarket carrier with mixed results. You might have to shop around to find one suited for Chevys.

In short, it's worrisome with a stockish 31", and for 33"+, bad juju. You will eventually tear the sheetmetal on the tailgate ... been there, done that. A solid mounting to an aftermarket bumper is preferable.

If you really wanna do it, there were a couple of popular carriers made expressly for the Blazer.
