How hard would it be for one man to move a Blazer if I dropped out the transmission and transfer case? :dunno:

I am thinking about dropping them but I still need to get it in and out of the garage while they are being rebuilt.

Depends how flat it is, and how strong you are, or if you have another car you can use to push.
I have used anything from a star wrench on the lug nuts to come along, to pushing with the car, but my driveway was steep so pushing it was out of the question.
Lately because of my age, I have bought a small 3000lbs electric winch and will be mounting it to the floor to pull cars and trucks into my driveway.

Has anyone here ever used those dolly's that go under each wheel?

I have a couple of dozen of those.
I have cars on them as well as engines and transmissions and tcases.
Best thing I ever bought from Harbor freight.
I have my projects on them in the garage so i can move them against the wall when not working on them for more access to other cars, and then move them back when I need to work on them.
I have also moved truck with no tires or no axles around with these.:waytogo:
Just make sure you buy them when they are on sale for half the price.
Now they are.

I use another truck to push mine around cause I've got a pretty steep driveway. I've thought about making something I could hook a come along to so I could pull it back in. Just don't try to push it with another vehicle it in the snow with a flat tire on the k5.... you'll break the back window. :doah:

If you grab the tire tread and rotate the wheel that way it gives you tons of torque on the hub equal to the force you put into it times the radius of the tire. Makes it pretty easy to move a truck around. Also, if you're doing this on the front wheel, you can steer the truck too.

like they said above, depends on the hill and your strength... but what about your willingness. it's not bad to do it a few times during a weeks time, but if you're going to be working on it awhile... i'd suggest the come along or winch.

i drive a wrecker and use wheel dollies a dozen times a night. awesome tool. but it does get old rather quick.

Thats what I do:thumb:

I was once under my van and needed it moved forward to grease the rear u joint, and I was lazy so I just grabbed the drive shaft and turned... It worked:D (but its like a 4" dia driveshaft)

Do you happen to have a ride on mower? Makes it pretty easy to pull dead cars around the driveway.

If your driveway/garage area is flat, it's not hard to push. I like to put by back against the truck, hands wrapped under the bumper, and push with the legs.

Oh, and as a bonus, without the trans/t-case in there it will be a few hundred pounds lighter to push around. :haha:

I use the come along since my entrance is uphill.

One other note about the dollies is that, presuming you have wheels on the truck, their only advantage is the side-to-side movement of the truck. However, by using them, you lose the ability to apply torque to the movement of the truck and the whole weight of the truck is then up to you to move. Anyway, like I said above, grabbing the tire tread and turing gives you MOAR POWAR! :wink1:

my garage is a flat slab but my driveway is sloped downward as it approaches the garage....that could equal a Blazer inside my house....:doah:

Ouch, I hate those driveways, my houses have always been above the street not below thank god.
