MSD ignition woke it up!

new ignition just more efficient

I agree that an upgraded ignition in itself doesn't create more power, it just makes the engine more efficient, thus making power more easily available.

The factory gap I believe is 35. I just was told to gap my new plugs wider by several sources. 50 just sounded like a good starting point. The truck seems to like it tho.

This is defently an expirement in progress and the truck will always be evolving as long as I own it.

That's the fun of it all to me. I just can't seem to leave well enough alone. Soooo let the mods/fun continue.:D

I'm just proud that something I tried worked so well for me and provided me an oppertunity to give something back to the board, as I have learned much here.

Thanks for all the comments and questions because without questioning there is nothing learned.

You are correct...a stock coil doesn't exactly work wonders for the msd box...msd refers to it as saturation time i believe...the time it takes the coil to be ready to output another round of juice.

Driving between wyoming and colorado in the oilfields the chalet noticed a .5 and sometimes when i drove like grandpa fred a .7 mpg increase. In the winter time i switch to mud tires and the mileage goes out the window.

Over at 3rd gen the say the idle issue can be caused by bumping up the psi regulator on the tbi....the upping of the pressure works wonders when you are up and running but at idle it kinda chokes on it. Someone on that board sells a kit with a stock gm vacum operated regulator from a BB with a new spring to recalibrate the regulator as the spring rate of the BB regulator is way to high for even a chipped tbi with some mods.

Pretty soon i am going to get off my butt and do a tbi major tuneup and play with the spark plug gap and get the summer shoes back on the chalet and see what the best mpg is before dumping money into the R4 project. I believe at that point i'll have done all i can for a large brick with 4 tires....lol.

Interesting thought though...has anyone upgraded to the msd tbi distributor?
I have seen some goofy stuff over the years with modules on the stock tbi dist loosing ground and having fun messing with your mind also. I would hope for a 3bill at least purchase the msd dist would be worth the coin.
