Muddysub's Toyota crawler.

Blazer bash prep is in full swing, parts are rolling in and I'm in the garage almost every night. Currently sitting in one of the yota seats on the floor in the garage waiting for paint to dry.

I picked up some steel from Metal supermarkets and built a harness bar for the shoulder belts tonight, also installed the eye bolts and lap belts. That aught to make the wife much more comfortable in the truck.

I cut out the floor around the shifters, I need to build a new tunnel cover and boot setup. I'm having a hard time finding universal shift boots that will work for me. I'd like to use rubber ones that just pop into the floor like a grommet to reduce the amount of hardware involved. If anyone has any suggestions I'll gladly listen.

If anyone wants to swing by this weekend and help, I'll be welding stuff and swapping out a bunch of parts.

I'm really happy with the leather tunnel cover I made...the stuff I used is really think..you could go thinner if you wanted more a boot around the shifters

I installed a new pitman arm tonight, got myself another 3/4" of clearance between the tie rod and drag link.

I installed my harness bar and shoulder belts today. I was feeling pretty good til I learned that harnesses without a cage is kind of a nono because they keep you upright and the roof could come down in a rollover. That never crossed my mind. I do have a roll bar on the flatbed, it's not a cage but it's better than nothing right? Maybe I'll just wear the lap belts til I get a cage built.

Correct on the belts. You also want your belts to be mounted to the same piece as your seat. So if you mount harness to roll bar, make sure your seats are as well and not to the floor. If the roll bar stays put but the seat caves in, so on and so forth.

Ive heard that before, everything is mounted to the cab right now.

Scott I think your roll bar would hold up enough in a milder roll. If it's a multiple type of thing.........well let's just not do that.
Lap belts without shoulder belts imho is not good.

Can you grab some steel like anything and put an x in your roll bar? That will help

I can, good idea! Thanks man, I value your advice.

I installed a Remflex header gasket, that fixed my exhaust leak. I also drove the little yoter on the highway yesterday, it actually does pretty decent. I want new gouges so bad, nothing on the OEM cluster works anymore and I'm pretty sure my temp gauge is wrong. When it's reading 200*, my temp gun is reading 185* at the sending unit. Also my brake booster leaks, now that the exhaust leak is fixed I can hear it hissing. It's also causing it to crank a while before starting because the intake system is leaking through the booster. It's so tempting to buy a Wilwood dual master cylinder for it and ditch the booster altogether. It's only $100 or so more than a new booster but I'd have to do some fab work to mount it and I've got other shit to do before BB17.

So gauges and race car brakes are on the "after Moab" list. I guess those two necessitate the building of a whole new sheet metal dash. Hmmm...

How's that remflex header gasket?
I just bought a couple. Wondering what you thought and how they were.

Oh I forgot to mention, it's awesome! Totally sealed it up, just follow the directions for torque specs. If I ever need to replace the gaskets on my Suburban, I'll buy remflex for it.

Your Toy looks to be coming along nicely. Hopefully, when it cools down we can get together and do some wheeling. I will stay on the maintained fire roads with my street queen Crew Cab, and get out and watch you do the hard stuff with your Toy :D. I am still struggling with some small stuff on my 91 V3500, but it is running pretty good, and hope to have it ready to this fall.

We'll wheel together with both of the big trucks, anywhere I fit, you'll fit. Haha! We can definitely go hit some trails together, I'd love to see a crew cab run Rocky Gap.

Hell with it, lets rebuild the front axle 4 weeks before BB17.

I planned on replacing the inner axle seals today, simple enough though labor intensive. Since I had people there to help, we decided to just put the front axle on the table. I'm glad I did, because I found a bunch of ****ed up stuff in there.
The lower trunion bearing on the passenger side was dead, the knuckle ball was gouged up and the passenger side birf is kinda stiff. I filled the gouges in the knuckle ball with my MIG welder and buffed them smooth with 60 & 80grit flap wheels. While I was at it, I welded on some new steering stops.
I drained the diff, the oil wasn't as clean as I'd like. I'll pull the third tomorrow to look through it since I'm this far into it.
I need to order knuckle rebuild kits and gussets. I also need to tear the one birfield apart and see what's going on in there. I hope I don't need new ones.

As mentioned, I had help. My dad surprised me and came over to lend a hand and my buddy Henri, who was instrumental in getting Daisy put together, came up from Laughlin to wrench with me as well. They got the brake booster replaced, helped with the front axle and installed the second propane tank mount. My dad went out and bought a fan because he wasn't happy with the airflow in my garage. I can't believe it took this long to pull the trigger on a damn fan, haha! All in all I had a good day out there, even if I found some carnage in my front axle.

Well I've been ordered to relax today, my hands and arms have been killing me lately. I'll still head out to the garage later on this evening and do some more cleanup work on that front axle. I should have parts mid week sometime, then we'll throw the axle back under the truck and take it for a spin.

How did that not roach the pinion?
I have no idea. It almost looks like it's been rebuilt since the carrier was damaged and they didn't clean out the housing. There was no end play in the pinion, none of the bearings look destroyed, the gears are fine, the housing is good, the pinion bearings didn't spin. This was laying inside the housing when I pulled the third.
