Oh baby!

These and my diff set up kit arrived today, time to get to work! I'd love to have @blazinzuk here for this part but I'll have to get through it myself. I'm taking the carrier to work tomorrow to press off the bearings and build a side adjuster tool to help set things up. Sure would be nice to have a clamshell puller.

I got in a few hours of garage time today, the ring and pinion is all set up. I had to tear it down and re-shim three times but finally settled on a pattern that @blazinzuk and I are happy with (for a used gear set). I made a crude tool to hold the pinion while crushing the sleeve and got the preload set. I also made a tool to turn the side adjusters on the carrier. Even had to make a quick run to buy a beam type torque wrench, my digital wrench reads rotating torque but can't read below 60in/lbs. During my final assembly I got in a hurry and destroyed the input seal. I'll have to find a new one locally.

This weekend I hope to finish assembling the axle and get it back under the truck. I still need to make a new hard line for the pass front caliper too. I dropped it and broke the hard line.

The seal had to pay for its betrayal.

Done for the night!

Oh I'm not sure I mentioned it but I found out I've got 5.71s rather than 5.29s. Had to count teeth 3 times to be sure.

Well it's back under the truck. I hunted around this morning and got the hardware I needed for the axle, moved it to the truck with my cherry picker and got it bolted in. Tomorrow I'll finish up the brakes, shocks and driveline. I found a couple really small cracks on the frame that I'll weld up before I put the tires back on.

You can see it along the edge of the weld below the hole.

Alright, I hope this is the last of it, I'm tired of working on this truck. The front end is all done. New pitman arm, bearings and seals from hub to hub, RCVs, knuckle ball gussets and steering stops. I need to bleed the brakes and take it for a spin.
