I've had this problem for a few years and now I want to fix it. I shift the 4x4 into place and it will go, but the shifter will move back foward and it will be back to 2wd. I was told it could be the linkage, but no shop could figure it out. The transfercase took quite a beating a few years ago when this truck had 500hp pushing it. Could that be it?

I need help. Thanks.

I dont have an answer, but I have the same problem... Are you running a 208 by chance?

if it is a 208, i have experience adjusting the linkage on them. you actually use a feeler gauge and want to leave slack in the linkage between the T case and stick, because if you dont it will always get knocked out of 2wd when the motor twists or u hit a decent bump. it sounds weird, but that tiny bit of slack helps out a lot.sorry i forgot the # feeler gauge to use. maybe someone here knows it...

208's are know for shifting out of 4wheel back into 2wheel. I think it's the shift collar that gets worn, someone that knows more about it will probably correct me. The was a post on it a few days ago.
