My 5.3 swap thread!

Well i kinda thought this would happen. Dude pushed back the pick up date to wednesday... I think if he pushes it back again im going to have to tell him im going to find one elsewhere. Hopefully he just comes through! Also told him that i would take it from him as is with a stock harness and computer for $700. We'll see what he says to that.

:doah: I really hope this guy doesn't turn out to be a flake. He had my hopes up!
 
My own worst enemy... There is a truck on Craigslist that is tempting me. It blue with tinted windows like mine. Says it runs and drives good. $800 bucks. I'm thinking I could pick that baby up and stick the motor in my truck, take all the doors, glass, front clip etc and use all those parts on mine. Obviously this would mean a no go on the 5.3 for quite some time. So, I'm thinking what might make my mind up is going to actually look at the truck. If i get there and the thing is pristine, I will have to go that route. If It's just ok, I will have to continue with the 5.3! Don't know why I'm so gung ho on screwing myself out of a sweet motor! Guess It's cause the rest of the truck is in such disarray. Oh well. We'll see how it goes. Planning on checking it out this weekend.

I've tried several and they all were so tall I couldn't even close the hood. :eek1:
 
Not sure of the difference in any of them but here is a pic of how mine fit. Got it at o'reilly's.

I wonder if some brake booster are just bigger then others which would put the master cylinder out father away from the fire wall. Mine is the factory one that come on my K5.
Have read where some guys shimmed the brake booster at the top to tilt it down for more clearance. Not suer how it really works didn't have to do that on mine.

I read that as well, but then there were questions about the length of the rod going into the booster.

lol you post is like 4 after mine where I talk about it not clearing my hood. Then you posted a few post later with that photo and you have tons of room.


How much did this MC swap affect your brakes after your disc conversion?
 
my brakes rock now, but i cut out the hood ribs and raised the front of the hood up probably a 1/4" to clear it all via the hood latch holes that have quite a bit of adjustment.
 
Lol you guys are funny. Speaking of funny, I'm not going to mess around with that other burb. I'm going to see the 5.3 through dangit! And i really need to stop with the detractions!
 
Ok, nother little motor pickup date update. This one was by my request. Turns out I'm going to be out of town next weekend. Also turns out that where I'm going to be out of town is a few miles from this dudes place! So on my way back to town next weekend, I'm going to stop and grab the motor. Which OS really nice cause otherwise I would have had to drive 115 miles each way Wednesday before work, and another 115 ish each way this weekend! So, witg that, the motor is now scheduled to be picked up this Sunday!

Edit: just made my first purchase! Motor mounts! Next up is the flexplate, spacer, and bolts.
EDIT: spacer and bolts ordered.

You got it! Only updates are that i should have the motor on Sunday, the motor mounts should be here Monday, and the flexplate spacer and bolts should be here tuesday.
 
Man I'm excited to get the motor and drop it in! I'm sick at the moment so going out in the cold and taking stuff apart doesn't sound like much fun. Also still have Christmas shopping to do also so it will probably be after Christmas before I get the new motor dropped in. Seems like forever! Also need to pick up a new heater for the garage as my current one crapped out...

Yep! Despite the fact that my nose is running like Niagara falls, I can't stop coughing long enough to sleep and to top it off the doc says I have a sinus infection and now I'm on antibiotics, I WILL go get my motor Sunday damit!
 
rub some dirt on it and suck it up cowboy! lol!
don't forget to take pics of EVERYTHING.
