My 5.3 swap thread!

Doesn't look like much but i got the motor ready to pull. Now I'm out of time for the day :(

Came in form the garage and found that usps came and went without dropping off my package from summit containing the fuel pump, temp sender, and oil pressure adapter. So now i gotta go pick it up from the post office tomorrow... Oh well.

Here are some pics of how I did my sensors. I did do all new gauges in the cluster, so I was able to use the auto-meter adaptor and sensor for my temp gauge in the head.
Also, I believe that the best water pump to tap is the one from a car that the hose is coming straight out instead of going out the top like the truck one because it has a large flat spot on top where the hose comes out.

Heres how I did the oil pressure sensor. I drilled out the adaptor above the oil filter and then tapped it. I still have the factory one in the top hooked up.

Heres the auto-meter sensor and adaptors.

Also I used the truck manifolds and didn't have to trim the frame or manifold. Some how it barely clears and doesn't touch.

Thanks for the pics! That's really helpful! I'm starting to think that only the 6.0 manifolds don't clear. We will find out when i put mine in here in a couple days.

Got the motor pulled! Buddy's Scott and Tim came over and helped out. Now It's ready for a day or two of clean up, then drop the new motor in and get busy on the wiring.

Also pulled one of the valve covers. Looks good in there!

Don't let that torque converter hang on the front of that trans too long. It will distort the seal and leak once it's all back together and running. Just enough to annoy the crap out of you.

Probably worth picking up a new seal while it's all apart and replacing before the new engine goes in.

Oh yea, went and picked up one of my two packages from summit from the post office. It was the oil pressure sending unit adapter. The fuel pump and temp sending unit should be here tomorrow.

I have one time... That's a story in itself! Short story is a buddy and I did it in a quicky mart parking lot in a small town with a present wrench and a broken ratchet and a milk crate! But yes, I plan on borrowing a tranny jack for the job this time...

Well this is what im considering my "before" shot of the engine bay. Its looking like Monday before i finish cleaning and drop the new motor in.

Just to give a before and after.

Just like to add that I'm very happy with my progress so far. I gave myself about 2 months to get the swap done and so far It's looking like less then half that. I mean, I only got the new engine out of the blazer on the 26th and pulled the 350 on the 28th and should have the new one in on the 2nd. And if I weren't such a Dang busy body I could have had it running over Christmas break! I have only really had about two and a half days to work on it so far...

yes th400. Im just going to elongate the holes on the flex plate and use the spacer i got to support the snout. Easy peasy.

Anyway, got my temp sender and fuel pump!

I'm not 100% sure but I think if it has the 6 bolt tourqe converter the bolt pattern won't match even if you elongate the holes. But I could be wrong don't remember.

This is after about an hour with the pressure washer. Still some hand washing to do and lay down just a little black paint on the frame.
