My FAST EFI / fuel injection mod thread

anybody with a FAST set up, can you get a nice shot of your linkage? There are so many holes but they are all HUGE!! Not sure where to mount, or how to mount, the throttle cable. Still haven't had any time to look over lifting the bracket/ or removing the spacer.

Billet Aluminum FTW :waytogo:

What hole did you end up using on the throttle arm? Dammit, you're manual tranny too. Hmmm

I like the throttle cable, what and where is that from?

When I put the 350 in my S-10 I used the same throttle bracket from Jegs, it comes with the trans bracket too. The throttle cable was from Locar. I used the factory outside and the Locar inside.

What he said ^^^^^

The bracket can be ordered with a kick down bracket. And my throttle cable is a Lokar. It's pretty blingin if you ask me. I think I used the top large hole for the spring return and a smaller hole for the cable attachment. I don't really have any clearer pictures. Sorry

I made a plate out of 3/16" aluminum and cut up a chrome holley bracket so I could use the stock throttle cable. Wasn't happy with the holley bracket so I modified it until I was.

These are the two pictures I have of it...one with the Holley carb and the other one with the EFI and the engine crossbar in the way.

Is everyone just running the PCV to the rear base port on the TB?

What should I do with my gas tank vent line? Not sure if I should hook that up to the TB also, might be a massive vacuum leak between having the PCV and vent hooked to it.

I ran my PCV to the large rear port on the EFI TB. If you look under it, one of the large ports has has a more restricted channel to it. I used the smaller channel for the PCV and the larger one for the brake booster hose. Although I may have over analyzed that.

As for the tank vent line, I just put a filter over mine so no debris could get in there. Do not hook it up to the throttle body, thats potentially very dangerous if you get a backfire, if you are not running a charcoal canister just put a small filter on the end of it and be done. In addition drawing a vacuum in your fuel tank might even crush it and create extra load on your fuel pump trying to pump fuel out of a vacuum.

ahhhhhhhh
mmm

I am running the charcoal canister. I can run a hose up to hood height (like my axle breather) and put a filter on it. Sound good?

To be honest if you are running the canister I don't remember what the factory did with the vent line after it goes through the canister? And I am not sure the filter is necessry at that point? I thought the canister is kind of a filter itself. I won't be much help with the factory canister setup, sorry.

to make things worse, the canister has an electric connection on it too. One of the fittings is marked "tank vent" and that is combined with the other 3,416 hoses under the hood. I might just cap off the other nipples on the canister. Then run a longer hose for the tank vent, just so water doesn't enter the canister.

I ran my PCV hose to the back of the throttle body and my brake booster to the manifold. I used the small constant vacuum port for the fuel pressure regulator and the small ported connection to the distributor vacuum advance.

My truck never had a charcoal canister so I extended the vent hose, put a little filter on it, and secured it to the top of the radiator core support.

no time to work on this, but next week should open up for me

I bought a TrickFlow throttle linkage bracket. Comes with the TV block too. I went ahead and bought a Lokar throttle cable and matching TrickFlow mount for it. I just might hold off on the Lokar since it seems the factory stuff is working perfect.

I should emphasize....I only used the linkage bracket because I'm running a spacer under the TB. The factory stuff should work find without the spacer. I also like using the linkage bracket over making the factory one work. The factory bracket is still serving a purpose, well half of it is. I cut it in half, just enough to help hold my brake booster VAC line. The rest is in the trash. It all looks great. No pics till next week some time :(

I should also mention that the FAST kit comes with an aluminum reusable fuel filter with 6AN fittings. I didn't see it in the packaging, wrapped up and tucked away in some corner  You shouldn't need to buy one. Just letting others know :doah:that I've ended up with a spare.

Putting these fittings in the hose are impossible. I don't know how anyone does it. I wasted an hour trying to get ONE on. I needed this one so bad yesterday, so I could get my gas tank mounted. NOPE.

How do you guys get them on?
I put the fitting in the freezer. I put the end of the hose in water, brought it up to a HOT boil, and left it in there for about 5 minutes. With the fitting freezing and the hose held with gloves, I still couldn't get it on. Now the hose is frayed looking on the ends. It also feels like the first 1/4" of the hose lost all it's strength; it's soft like a regular hose, but still can't get the fittings in any farther.

Dammit

wd40 is your friend. also make sure you put the fitting in a bench vise so you can get more leverage on it. You have to keep the pressure on the hose to keep it moving, once it stops thats it it ain't moving anymore. They are a major pain in the ass but in the end they have a nice clean profesional look.

Yeah, I left the hose in the boiling water like you did, I also had to have the fitting clamped somewhere so I could use BOTH hands on the hose. Wear some leather gloves (welding gloves work well) so you have a good grip on the hose and you don't burn yourself. Also, while the hose is soaking in the hot water, I put engine oil on the fitting barbs. Then I took the hose from the hot water to the fitting immediately, only a second or so between them. Good luck, you'll get it, once you get the first one then the rest will be quicker because you have the process down, but it's still a total PITA.

I use the razoer blade plier type cutters to cut the hose and it was a breeze to cut, I would cut the end of the house off if I didn't get it on the first try. Always start with fresh hose.

Also, once I got the end completely on, I would peel the rubber piece back, then take some electrical tape and wrap it around the end of the hose twice, and push the rubber back over it, I figured since it was not contained in anyway I did that to prevent it from fraying over time.

uggg

I will have to try again soon. I used penetrating lube and WD40...the outcome was the same. I pushed using a vise. I also held the piece upright on my kitchen table while my friend tried to push the hose on it. Went straight from the boil pot to the freezing cold fitting. I even got crazy and used a MAP gas torch to heat the end. Kinda ruined that end AND still wouldn't go on the fitting.
