I was reading the newspaper during my lunch break today and I read a letter to the editor from someone complaining about Vice President Cheney's visit to Cheyenne for lunch a couple weeks ago...

At first I wanted to write a note to correct her plane identification skills... She said he flew in on a private 747... Of course, Cheyenne's airport is too small for a 747 to land or take off, and he has a 737 anyway... But I was thinking about how to word it and realized this lady was just totally badmouthing the poor guy, basically unwelcoming him because she doesn't want to pay for his lunch and all he did was wave for a camera... So I wrote this:

Ms. Harman, the Vice President works very hard for all
of us, and you are complaining about him taking a
lunch break in Cheyenne? It's an honor to have a man
of such stature in this town, and you want to push him
away and banish him. I'll be honest, I was more
concerned about what Garfield was up to than reading
any of the stories in the WTE, so I don't know what
    exactly was reported.

What was reported, though, is not important. The issue
is that you are upset because he "hired a private
747." You're angry because he spent a couple dollars
of your tax money. You are making a huge deal about
the street being cleared so he could travel safely.
    You are being extremely unreasonable.

    First of all, he has a 737 (Look closely; that's a 3,
not a 4!) for a reason. That reason is not to decorate
a hangar in Washington D.C. Why is it a bad thing to
have a car sent to pick you up at the airport? I don't
blame him, I've seen some of the taxis in this town.
Without the streets being cleared and monitered, he
might as well have walked through town screaming

I know we have SO MUCH crime in this town, but I'm
confident that anarchy and chaos will be kept at a
minimum when a few law enforcement officers are asked
to protect the second most important person in the
country. Considering all that he has done and
continues to do for this country, I say we owe him
lunch once in a while. Besides, what's a few cents of
your tax money to feed Mr. Cheney, compared to the
millions that are spent on completely useless things.

Let's show some respect for the Vice President and
make him feel welcome in his home state, whether he
    votes here or not.

Is that too harsh??? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pretty good read, unfortunately I think it will be "edited" a little bit. If it gets printed, scan it and post it.

    Will do, pardner...

I'm suprised at some of the stuff they put in the paper... every couple days it's pretty much a slam-the-nespaper-fest /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

They seriously suck... usually the only thing worth reading in there is the letters to the editor, Dear Abby, Garfield, the trucks for sale page, and the jobs page /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Hmm... Oh well... it should print this weekend sometime if they run it /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
