Below is what the problem was, butluckily it was only a u-joint. IT was a Brute Force ujoint thatwas 1 year old w/ sythetic grease, what happened was the cap on 1 end broke, butdidnt come out, however all the bearings did... go figure, so im fixin it after this post
phew what a relief!

ok well i had that *ding* comming from when i put it in Rev and when i put it in Drive, now when i back up the *ding* goes *dingding* rapidly! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif
and then sometimes when i go fwd at a slow pace it does the same thing. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif
what is that and how do i fix it?

Re: my noise is getting worse...help

U-joint maybe? can you tell where the noise is coming from?

Re: my noise is getting worse...help

What transfercase are you running? That sounds just like what my 79 did when that POS Super wench 203 part time kit didn't have enough shims in the tail shaft to keep it tight.

Re: my noise is getting worse...help

Definitely try to find out where the sound is coming from.
Also, take a close look at your driveshaft and especially the ujoints.
Can't image there'd be anything separating and banging something as the shaft goes around, but I had a similar problem when I went into four-wheel drive. Turned out to be the tranny mount and the front drive shaft whacking the subframe.

Re: my noise is getting worse...help

well when my dad was under the car when we were trying to figure out what it was, and he said its coming from the Differential housing.
but sounds like the dings are comming through the driveshaft as well

Re: my noise is getting worse...help

i have either a 205 or 208, one of the 2. isnt one of them really good?
well i have the not as good one.
it was stock in my 85 automatic w/ corpertate 10bolts and i lowered the t-case with the stock spacers....

where do i get shims how do i put it on?
i have a 4in susp lift w. 1in add a leafs all round, and ive had it for bout 1 1/3 years and it just started doing this this month
and i replaced the u joints on the driveshaft 1 year ago

Re: my noise is getting worse...help

Do you grease the u joints religiously? I mean after everytime you go wheelin'? I blew a joint that wasn't three months old because of lack of maintanance. One year old u joints in a truck that's wheeled regularly are bound to fail without good maintanance. I've had my truck just over a year and I'm on my third set.

Maybe jack up the rear so that the tires are off the ground and then put the trans into neutral. Then spin the driveline around. You can also wiggle the driveline to death and see if you can find a bad joint. If you dont have any luck you could pull off the rear driveline and spin the rear tires and see if its the rearend. Good luck.

Re: my noise is getting worse...help

Pull the diff cover. I think your rear end is going out. It can transmit noise to the driveshaft.

Re: my noise is getting worse...help

i agree with grim pull the diff cover and see if you have any chiped or broken teeth on the ring and pinion

Re: my noise is getting worse...help

what do i look for when i pull it off?
how can i tell if its blown?
and what do i do to fix it?

theres some more questions..... this thing is buggin the hell outta me
