It was 2 degrees on my back porch this morning -- for Blacksburg, VA, that is cold. I have a recently installed 6.2 diesel in my truck -- I plugged in the engine warmer last night before bed.

This morning, I attempted to crank the truck over -- on the second try there was an audible "pop" and then nothing. No lights, the truck is as dead as dead can be.

Any ideas? I bummed a ride to work but I've got to get it fixed right away. Is there a breaker somewhere that could have tripped? I can't find any blown fuses. I know nothing about wiring or electrical issues.

did you try the simple things first like retightening your battery cables? I had that happen one time, it was a pop when I tried to start it and it was just a battery connection.

Lets hope. I'm headed home to work on it now. I don't think that's it, the only thing that works on the truck are the auxiliary off-road lights.

found the problem

I should have taken a picture....the wire to the starter was burned completely in two and the wiring harness for my hella lights was melted.

happened to me once, the bigass one, fried in half on the free way. it had melted onto my exhaust and then shorted. got a ride to homedepot and bought a giant splice thing, meant for underground connections, fixed it. replaced the cable a few weeks later, no big deal, a little frustrating on the way to school on a rainy western WA day (read deluge).

Have you fixed it yet? On a customer's C10, when the cable going to the starter shorted on the manifold, it blew one or two of the fusible links mounted on the firewall.

I did fix it, thanks! I just replaced the cable. It didn't blow any links, but it did melt the wiring harness to my hella lights. Weird.
