oh hell yeah!

That's a head slapping why-didn't-I-think-of-it moment fo sho!:waytogo:

i have told people to use them for years . unbolt the spring mounts from the uni body and it all comes right out perfectly.

hate to see the alignment specs on that now that its fliped over tho. :doah:

Trailer axles are inexpensive.Sure you might get that free or cheep but then you would need some heavy duty springs to haul weight and its narrow so it would be a dinky trailer.

I've often thought that while i was doing oil changes on FWD vans as i like to check out anything we have up in the air for ideas i can apply to my 4wds however the thing that always stopped me from really trying it was the lack of weight rating. No way in hell would i feel safe towing a k5 with 2 of those. Not to mention you would need to rig up some long brake lines and run it off of the tow rig or figure somethin out for that. It always seemed like more work than it was worth with trailer axles so cheap :dunno:

Your thinking way to big :D, those axles / springs would be nice for a small trailer to tow "behind" your K5 :D

So, where are these cheap trailer axles you speak of? I can't seem to find any of them around here. Eastern Oregon. :)

Do ypu have a Northern Tool store nearby??--if not they sell axles pretty cheap thru their website or catalog, shipping might kill the savings though...
We sold just about every FWD rear axle that came into the junkyard to build it yourselfers, they used them for utility trailers and lawn tractor carts to haul wood,mulch,etc...the Caravan ones are pretty strong, but I dont think I'd trust them on a car trailer or skid steer hauler!..

We built 2 car trailers using caddy Eldorado/Olds Toronado rear axles, they were dead axle but still worked very well for our purposes,(scrapping stuff and hauling a vehicle home after buying it,or a car to the race track)...one guy boiught a 1972 Eldorado from the junkyard and he grafted a car trailer to it--he saw one in Hot Rod magazine someone built into a car hauler by cutting the car off just behind the front seat and grafting the car trailer to it...it was a "low rider: and the 455 engine hauled anything that fit on it pretty wasily and it still drove and handled nice--was a very cool rig for hauling his drag car to the speedways...
