I've got a stock '87 K5 that I want to put factory tow hooks on. I've been to a local dealer and checked their parts books and have seen some on ebay and even got photos of some sent to me but they all looked different.

Could any of you guys send me some photos of how yours are mounted for a stock installation. It appears that the '87 and '88 models are different. I've seen some that hang straight down and the dealer parts book shows them bolted to the bottom flange of the frame but I don't see how I could mount them there. Also, is the frame supposed to be pre-drilled for them ?

You can send the photos to [email protected] with 'Tow Hooks' as the subject.

Thanks

Have you got any pics yet? If not I could take some of mine in the morning and send them to you.

I just took the stock hooks off my 88 k5. They bolt to the frame rails along with the bumper brackets, using the same holes. If you want mine they are yours if ya pay shipping. I'll go get a couple pics for ya.

here's the hooks

and this is how they were mounted. This is the outside of the frame rail, driver side.

'87 K5 Tow Hooks

OK Guys, I can't post a photo but here's a link to when I can post it. At my Webshot site go to page 3 and look at the last album titles 'Blazer Stuff'. I posted a copy of the page out of one of our local GM dealers parts book. This is why I've been so confused over these. It appears their parts book is wrong because I don't see how I could mount them like that and they don't even look like the ones Y'All have been posting photos of.

Many thanks for the help.

Those pics on your webshots are of the '88 and newer frames, bumpers, hooks. Take a look a the bumper and the frame. They are both different than the '87 and older trucks.

I would say its just a typo from the dealership as this is a common mistake from them. Never trust a dealership for quotes or stuff like this. Always refer to them in more than one year. For example, tell them you are looking for hooks to fit between '81 and '87. This is the years of these hooks that were available to fit the frames.

Yup I'm thinking the same thing that they are for the 88+ trucks. If it fits the 81-87 trucks it should also fit 88-91 blazers and suburbans, as they kept the same body style. Whenever I get stuff from the autparts store I almost always tell them it's for an 87 blazer even though mine is an 88. I've gotten too many wrong parts for that year possibly because their computers are going off the 88 truck parts which are the new body style.
