hey there guys and gals I'm really up crap creek without a paddle .... I bought a truck from a guy off the net and when I went and got it he had a title and it was noterized but here's the dickish part .... the vin on the title doesn't come close even matching the vin plate in the truck lol. And best of all the guy skiped out of town right after I bought it so what I need is a 95 -98 gmc or chevy extended cab WITH vin and title if any one has this or can get me this I'm willing to pay good money for it. Thanks all!

96-up will = emmisions testing if your state requires plug in to obd2 plug. :doah:

so if it was me try for 95-older.

thank god I don't! I live in wyoming the state where if you have headlights brake lights turn signals. Four rubber tires and a seat belt you can drive it and title it lol:haha:

You do know it is a FEDERAL crime to tamper with the VIN plate right?

Imo,

Get insurance and take your chances driving it with what ever plates are on it..sketchy tho.

Or

Just go through the legal process, while its insured and keep all paperwork with you all the time

Or

Park it till you get it figured out. And go through proper state channels then drive it.

I'm not saying my ideas are right, but neither of my ideas recommend tampering with vin.
Just my .O1$

Check with the po-po on the trucks actual vin...you may be in possesion of a stolen vehicle....

my turd stepson learned that the hard way....:waytogo:

I'm not gonna jump down your throat, cuz I can certainly understand how this could happen. I almost ran into a similar situation myself a while back (and the seller was in Compton - I shoulda known better to begin with).

You may be able to figure a way out of this, but what you are directly proposing above is illegal, and the mods will not tolerate talk of illegal activities on this board.

Personally, I'd figure out how to get myself clean and clear of that truck ASAP. The odds are very low that it's not stolen based on what you said above.

Lol where is you peoples sense of adventure ! :haha: lol your right though. Ok this is what I've done so far . I've obtained a truck from a complete idiot which was smart enough to pull one over on me . And I have had the cops come over and vin it and its clear and even that I should just go the abandoned route with it. Said they highly doubt anyone is gonna try and claim it. so than riddle me this. Has anyone been in this same boat as I am and how did you get through it. The truck has been in my garage from the first day I bought it and is gonna stay there till I get it figured out. You mean to tell me no one has ever bought cab and swapped it out for cus of extensive damage or rust ? Did you use the new trucks title or did you pull the vin of the old cab and swap into the new cab? Just my thoughts on the whole idea . Not trying to start wars just trying to get some opinions is all.

my trucks here in the rust belt the bodys have rusted off them but good frames.

so i buy good 2wd trucks with blown motors and do a body swap. then i reg it as the frame on the truck it was . since i play with only 1ton k30's .

and i cut the dash section out and keep the vin tag just in case there is ever a problem. and also the bill of sale or title for the doner body i swaped on.

had a cop pull me 1 time for inop tail light . asked why vin didnt match the reg tag in the window. i told him why and he ran both vins and no problems till this day.

we have what i call mut trucks . not 1 part on them is stock on lots of our trucks so the #'s matching is b/s to look for. just make sure all your parts are legal

amen brother ! That's what I have in mind not trying to do anything illegal just trying to get me something dependable enough to get me to work and stuff. I so freakin broke its not funny I've had to go through 2 back surgeries this year and I couldn't pass up a 100.00 truck that just needs a fuel pump and a radiator.

i had c6-c7 neck fusion this early summer so i know. been out of work over 1 year now on medical.

if cops said its clean i would just reg it and run it.

The last car I bought without a title basically had to go through a few hoops.

Car had to sit at a tow yard for over 30 days

Had to run an add in local paper

Go through process with dmv and they issued a new title.

Was a pain but the best way I found.

Sweetk30 It sure does put a hitch in your giddy up after a surgery eh? It sure does suck cus the state don't wanna pay ya enough or insurance don't take care of ya either . So I feel for ya . I found some forms I have to fill out and stuff but I don't think it will be that bad to get a title for this thing. The good thing is my house is zoned heavy commercial because its grandfathered in cus at one time it was a business. So as long as the sign is still up I can run a business out of it as long as the sign is never removed of the house otherwise it will become residental. It was orginally an auto trim shop back in the 50s .anyways back to the topic .... I'm just gonna claim it sat in my driveway for over a month and go with it. So with any luck no crackheads come around and try to claim it.

I swapped cabs on my new truck and got a title with the cab from the salvage yard. I had it transferred to my name and registered the truck with that title and vin. It was a year older and a half ton vs a 3/4 ton. I also have the title for the other cab and for the frame that I put the salvage yard cab on. I dont intend to pay what they want to transfer the title over for a cab I'll never use, but I will keep it on hand.

It sounds like you've got a plan though. Hope it all works out.
