weight fee on a commercial truck (not blazer) is 80 dollars on top of registration fees. My k20 is 149.00 a year because of the weight fee although im registered to 8200lbs...

santa clara county will make you get an enhanced smog, my rigs are registred in scz where they only do the sniffer...

Man, I never knew this. I thought you had the option to not register a vehicle, just you couldn't drive it then. And all you'd have to do to drive it again is to reregister it. That's really messed up that they're making you pay registration fees for years it was never driven on the road.

I always thought registration was so they could keep track of the vehicles on the road, and the fees were to pay for any wear and tear you put on the road by driving your vehicle. So why should you have to pay for years the truck was never driven on the road?

they want it non-oped, so if you don't non-op it, they figure you were driving it un registered...

Just like everything else in this state it's all a money game. Like onetonbb74 said you have the option to non-op a vehicle but that still cost you 18.00 and is good until you decide to register the vehicle again.

Here is from DMV's website.

California law requires vehicles to be currently registered if they are driven, towed, stored, or parked on public roads or highways at any time during the registration period.
Non-operational means that the vehicle will not be driven, towed, stored, or parked on public roads or highways for the entire registration year.
