Need help with Spare Carrier

One major flaw in the trailer spindle design is that its only a single sheer. I have seen plenty of threads on the typical 1000lb trailer spindle design breaking just above the welded area at the top of the bumper. There is just too much leverage on that spindle to handle that kind of weight, vibration, and lateral movement to expect it to last forever.

I am going to use a heavy duty gate hinge instead of the trailer spindle. Its a complete one piece roller bearing design with dual sheer. Its rated at 1500lbs and is designed to carry the load its intended to with the swing.

They are more expensive, but worth it in my opinion. $72 for unpainted.

I probably should. I have lots of website updating to do again.

This is why you tie the carrier to the bumper rigidly at the opposite end when it it closed. This prevents bouncing and fatiguing of that weld.

i sheared my rocklogic hinge as described, the PO built it so im not exactly sure what the rating was, but it was 1" round stock, it was even anchored on the other end as described as being the solution.... that much weight with that moment arm, vibrations, ect. the shock loading is huge,

stinger carrier is my next project, that design looks like it gets rid of the problems with the gate design, plus, no more lifting the spare alllll the way up there

Sorry, but no. Seen some break even with a rigid mount. The trailer spindles just don't hold up well over time.
