im gonna bult the ultimate tow rig...i already have the truck..83 ford f350 460/4spd/456 (i know not the best but it was only 600 bucks)...the bed is rotted out...i was just gonna buy a bedliner and put in there but now i think im gonna build a wood flatbed with tool boxes on the sides...like a homeade ute body (would love to have a ute bed but cant $$$ one)...any pics or ideas would be great...

so ive been thinking alot about this and here is what im gonna do i think...build a flat bed...get either get some used truck boxes for tools on ect...or get like the black trunks that wal mart sells for my tools...also the reason i want a flat bed i think i wanna have a generator or a generator/welder on the bed...i will also have stake body pockets for a removable stake body...im getting really excited about this..
 
Search out some pictures of ivie29's rig. He did a flatbed using the original bed floor as the starting point. Turned out very nice and you'd never know it was part of the original bed.
 
Here's a few pics. 72THING has built this flatbed years ago. It's proven to be really tough. It's mostly 14 gauge treadplate steel with various different sizes of 3/16" wall square tube sub-structure.

anyone elce have any more ideas or pics...im not very experianced with welding and the price of steel i would like to make the whole thing out of wood..anyone??

I have a wood one that I'm taking off today. I will just go in the fire. You can have it if you want. The Frame of my flatbed is made from the floor of a Refer van body. Just look for one in the junk yard with the same frame with. I just cut the lenght down, then so much off each side. It had a wood bed on it when I got it, but I already had the steal. I'll get some pics for ya today.
 
I do know were there is a custom 8' flatbed built by a truck body shop, from a dodge.

Yea I'll askabout it fot you. is you truck a dually? pickup daully? if so this bed will be too narrow.
 
nah its a pickup single wheel...i might just drop a bedliner in it for a while and then build my bed later i think..dont have the $$$ right now..
