My friend bought this cam kit for his mud/offroad truck, but he needs some cash so he's letting it go for $300. (retails for $400) I couldn't find much info about it online at least for my application. I want to put this cam in my c30 with a 454, which will be pulling primarily towing and driving duty. How would it fare?

Here's the information pulled from summit:

Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 4x4
Part #: k11-231-3
.505 valve lift
254/262 advertised duration

Here's the link in case more information is desired - I haven't done a cam before and don't know much about their specs. I know the basics like more lift and duration equals more flow which generally equals more power but not the ins and outs. I have a sort of time limit on when this deal will be available, so instead of taking the next few days I figured I would ask you guys.

Some info on the truck - 4.56 rear gears, and will only ever see a 33" tire max. I'm not looking for a dragster but a little oomph would be cool. Also not looking to kill my gas mileage more than a big block ought to. The truck has a th400 right now but will eventually be getting an nv4500. I have the 5 speed already.....just need to order one fitting for the clutch hose and I'll be golden.

That is a fairly mild cam which should produce plenty of low end torque and be a great improvement over a stock cam. Idle will be pretty decent as will engine vacuum, looks like a good deal from here.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to pick it up tonight. If I end up not using it I'll just sell it back to the same person for what I paid

cool . just makin sure .

if I recall a member here few years ago didn't check his setup and smoked the top end or cam and parts .
