I got my new 3" exhaust finished up today. It consists of a 3" magna flow cat that is 50 state OBD-I compliant and a 3" Flowmaster Super 40. I also purchased a 4' section of pipe and a Universal Mandrel bent tailpipe kit along with Ball socket connectors to aid in installation, maintenance and welding.

This is why I needed a new exhaust and I needed a cat as my HC on smog was only 2 points below the failing limit:o .

I also have a joint in front of the cat that connects the cat/muffler section to the Y pipe but that pic was messed up on the memory card:o .

Before any one says it yes the labels are still on the pipes as I forgot to remove them when I put the stuff together. It will be coming out after the desert next weekend to be cleaned and painted with BBQ paint or VHT.

I broke the first rule of welding and did not turn off my bottle when I put it away last week so I went to work with only 300# of pressure in my shield gas bottle vice the 2200# it had when I put it away:doah: .

As a result some of the welding was rushed and it shows in the weld appearance.

One last pic of the frame showing how everything is tucked up.

As for how I like it. I think it is kick ass. The super 40 is not load at all but then again I have it exiting out the rear quarter. I did fire it up with just the cat and with the cat and muffler just dumped and it was significantly louder inside the truck.

I can cruise at 3K and have a conversation and listen to the radio with no problems what so ever. If I wanna make it load I just stand on the skinny pedal:D .

Welding in position under a truck on something round isn't easy...so the fact the welds look decent in spite of all that impresses me. Sure beats paying some exhaust shop a few hundred bucks for the same thing.

Thanks for the complement but most of the welding was done out of the truck. I designed the system to be removable for ease of welding:D . I did have to install and remove sections about 10 million times though.:D

I would put it in and tack it pull it out weld solid, reinstall measure and cut the next curve tack and pull it out then weld it solid.

I worked for aboot 5 hours yesterday and that was from the outlet of the cat to complete with the hangers.

I really really like my welder though its tits:D . Next project will probably be sliders and once I move my axle back I will put an anti wrap device in.

cool man.. i just redid my exhaust also... when did flowies come paintred black?

Yep the super 40 comes black. It is not anything special though, not even sure if it is heat resistant.

They also offer an offroad super 40 that the case is made out of diamond plate to withstand hits it too is black.

What was the prices/differences?

Where did you get the mandrel bent kit and the connector pieces? Im going to have to put together a smog compliant system too when I finish my tbi conversion. Did you use the stock y pipe? I need to get together that part too. :doah:

I ordered all of the pipe and connectors from Summit and the cat and muffler from Mudfrog (a vendor on here).

The connectors and pipe are Flowmaster pieces that are cheaper through summitracing. The ball socket connectors are PN FLO-15930 for 3" to 3" and the pipe is a universal tailpipe kit PN FLO-15902. These are summit part numbers.

I currently am using stock manifolds and y-pipe as I did not have the funds for headers. I will be running a set of Edelbrock TES headers as they are 50 state legal and I will build my own Y-pipe out of 2.25 or 2.5 mandrel bends and route it away from my front driveshaft.

If you need part numbers for anything else let me know and I can look them up when I get home I have them in excel.
