Well I finally acquired my very own 78 K5, and from first impressions they are awesome. Couple of questions though.
This K5 is basically factory with the exception of 33 BFG's
This is Zero Emissions stuff on it, not even a Cat.
Had to replace the Ignition lock and it took a 1976 cylinder (78 would not fit)
    it has a 350, SM465, NP205 and D44 Fromt 12B rear.

Qustion was is this combination normal for this year,

Good note: Almost no rust, it lived it's entire life in the desert.

Looks like you got a great find! And yes that drivetrain combo is normal for a '78. Let's see some pics

    Welcome aboard!'
Sounds like it's a really nice truck. Just the fact that it hasn't got any rust makes it a real find!

Sounds like you got a screaming deal - That's about normal for a 78, the SM465 is actually much less common than the TH350 or TH400.

    Sounds like a nice truck! Man, what I wouldn't give for a pre-smog K5...

My '83 just has to pass a visual inspection ("Catalytic Converter...Present"), so I'll spend some time in the lab fabricating a two-peice dummy converter to clamp over a straight pipe for one day each year.

    Nah, that would be wrong.

I have a 78 with a 350, and it did not have a cat, it had factory dual exhaust.

    Thanks everyone,
Had my first runin with a Jeep, hehe. It broke a front hub in deep sand and was stuck. His friends jeep was unable to pull it free. Me and my little ole K5 hooked up to him and pulled him out. They did not really think I could do it, but the Blazer did not even break a sweat.
