What exactly does it do? Dampen vibration? Technically there's one attached to my truck, but it's never worked. Was blown when I got the axle. What will change if I replace it?

The damper helps to keep unwanted side to side steering vibrations to a minimum. I have ditched them in the past and never could tell a difference either way. A whole different story though when I installed my D60. I installed the D60 without a steering damper and for the first 15 months or so I had no problems but slowly started to develope DW and I tried EVERYTHING under the sun to stop it and nothing worked. I knew a steering damper wasn't about to stop this DW so I finally installed hydro-assist steering and THAT cured my DW issue.
Basically I would say just ditch the steering stabilizer and as long as you don't feel any effects then forget about it, IF you do start to feel any side to side vibrations then buy and install a new one OR go hydro-assist.
