Newbie saying hi

Do you know the difference between mig and stick?

A mig machine ( wire feed) is usually best for newbs.

I would search Craigslist too. A used Miller or Lincoln can usually be found at a similar cost to a new HF welder.

I have used HF welders they work just fine for me but it seems beginners have a difficult time with them.

I have a millermatic challenger 172. It's been bulletproof. I have probably put close to 400 10lb spools through it over the years.

Seems to me ill need to do a little bit of digging on google to learn a bit more about them and keep an eye on my local craigslist, thanks for the tips guys love this site already =]

I'm in Tucson too. When you're ready, we could explore a bit up in Redington if you want. I've made so many mods lately I need to ease back into it and have someone on the trail with me. Where in town are you?

I agree that you should decide where you want to be and go towards it. I've been messing with my truck for 20+ and it just keeps changing because I never make up my mind. Ended up spending way more than I needed to. This site will make it much easier since there are some basic formulas that are tried and true.

I think you need to define your end goal for what you want out of the truck.
There is no better place to get advice on these trucks than this place.
Whatever your goal keep safety first priority and reliability close behind.
Welcome aboard
Waaaaaaiiiiiittt... What's an end goal??? Is that where you "think" you are going to be done building or something like that? My end goal is for my wife to say (and mean it) "you just spend as much $$$ on this as you think you need". :haha:
