OK, didn't want a huge azz tach sitting on the steering column or making a hole in my dash, or where ever.....

So here's my idea

Well, 90% of the time I'm sure it will be closed. Only when on long highway runs, trouble shooting or tuning will it be open. Its a bright red digital display so it shouldn't be to bad, only bad thing I see is that it's a 10x tach so you will see three digits (888x10). /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I have seen it in a dump truck before, I think I will make a custom tube dash and mount mine there or mount it on the hood. hood won't look the greatest but it will be functional. I like having RPMs always within quick view. I've been thinking about getting a new smaller CB and mounting it there, not like I smoke.

/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif I nounted mine to the roll cage , I wanted to go that rought but my xm radio was in there /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

I currently have a ton of switches there. I'm contemplating yanking them out of there and putting a vacuum gauge and transmission temperature gauge there instead. I have enough metal that matches the interior of my truck for one more change and that's it.

I am pretty sure this has been done before. Not the most practical place for a tach for most people, sounds like it will do for what you want it to do. I want to mount mine on the dash so it is easy to see with out taking my eyes off the road. Nothing to do with looks, just about function.

How bout this? /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Out of the way and in full view..

Where mine is now is pretty good, hoseclamped to the steering column. PO did it, but I broke the tach at some point. Disconnected it for the motor swap and when I went to reconnect it it would never work again. You can't really look at it but when you are going if you know the tach well enough you can get a general idea of RPMs. I know I floated way too high in the RPMs more than once mudding with the old 305. 355 isn't gonna have that happening. Blakerazes is a nice spot, would be in the general vision like mine but on a 4 speed rig that won't work, would be punching the tach all the time.

I used to have it clamped to the column also but I got sick of it shifting when I shifted. You dont have that problem since youre running a 4-speed. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I could see a problem maybe with tilt column as well. Like I said I think i will do a hood tach or somewhere right by the windshield in plain view. I am planning on cutting the back of my hood in a cowl hood style to promote air flow so maybe inside one of those flaps.

Here's mine, mounted by an existing screw in the windsheild frame, and all wiring is hidden beside the dash.

You have it up there, I had it down closer to the dash bezel..
Yours is bigger too. /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif....
Doesn't it cover up the speedo/gas gauges?

It gets in the way a little, but you get used to what speed you're going by the tach and just check the gas guage when you get in and its no problem.
