So I do not hi-jack another thread, and I'm looking at upgrading my transfer case currently NP203. I have already been down the doubler road before in a 75 ford bronco I built. I loved all the gears and gear sticks , but low-low would over run the brakes with no problems in the rocks the control was awesome and that was with an NP435 tranny and yes I suffered stripped gears (right foot slipped).
Fast forward to my current build, 78 blazer with tons for axles TH350 Tranny, For now a stock 350 motor 37" tires on 17" locks. A more general purpose rig (camping, crawling, Sunday sight seeing from Holy Cross trail) so the reason for question information... bang for the buck.
These are some things I know already,
NP 205 tons load made, strong as hell downside gearing
Atlas II still seems to be going strong, different gearing available
Again looking for real world info,

The NP205 is substantially stronger than Atlas. The Atlas was more closely built around the Dana 300 architecture, it's a stout case for sure but an NP205 it is not. These are pictures of the short-lived 3:1 gears but they illustrate the point:

I've seen a bunch of gear failures in D18/D20/D24/D300 and a few Atlas cases, I've NEVER seen a gear fail in an NP205.
David, give us a call if you're in the market for a 4 speed system, we may have something for you in the not so distant future.
