I found a mechanical speedo 241 finally. I have it apart right now and the only thing I want to change are the fork pads. I have been seaching the foums and found a post listing the GM part numbers for a 208. My question is are the shift fork pads (range and mode) the same part number on the 241 as they are on the 208? Also, other than GMpartsdirect, is there any other place to buy single items from?

Post the 208 part numbers, should be able to grab the 241 part numbers from my manual tonight for you.

GMPD is about the only place I'm aware of, but it seems like most GM dealers keep a very odd assortment of small parts on hand, you MIGHT try your local dealer. Even if they have to order them, sometimes the small parts are actually pretty reasonably priced.

Best bet is to go to your GM dealer and buy them there, unless you live a long way from them. It's good to make friends with the guys at your local GM and other parts dealers, the counter guys there most of the time are pretty knowledgeable, that's the way they make their living. They will have or can get the things you want instead of people at AZ or whomever looking at you crosseyed not having any idea what you're building for ETC. Just my .02 .

I found these in the "post yer part numbers" thread. The #s are 14095680, 14037966, and 12337980. I'm guessing they are GM part numbers???

Normally I do go to the local Chevy dealership. Right now my work hours don't let me get there before they close. So it'll have to be an online order for now.

www.nationaldrivetrain.com they sell every little piece you need. When I needed the snap ring that's just inside the tailcone, the dealer wanted like $6.50 for it....I got 5 for $2 here and they came w/ a GM parts sticker on the baggie. Those pads are about .40 cents each. They ship from Atlanta and Chicago.

Sorry I confused myself. I don't have a parts manual that is new enough to cover the 241, and my service manuals from '91 are typical and don't list any part numbers. (doesn't even cover rebuild of the case!)

Answered my own question on this one. I found a web site, www.drivetrain.com with good parts breakdown of 208's and 241's, That site lists the pad kit for both as the same part number. Downside is GMPD sells the pads in a pack of 10 for 2 of the part numbers... so I need to get to the dealer anyways to buy the quantities I need.
