NV4500, newer VS older

According to Advance adapters, if it's an aluminum bell, it's theirs. I don't remember when I had my last 4500, but factory early bell's are cast iron/steel. 99.9% sure it's aluminum....still want to sell it, found a complete donor truck with a motor I can use, along with the NV4500 and all parts to swap over...if it's decent, might even drive it lol
The gm bell is aluminum also.

What they told me lol. I thought so as well but it’s been a long time since I had one to these….and I can’t remember what I did yesterday

Getting sick and tired of dealing with sh!tdicks on marketplace. Was gonna trade it for a truck, but guy must of bailed cause never heard from him. So gonna keep it, but need to figure out what hydro stuff and pedals to use. 99.9% sure it's the AA bell, cause doesn't look like a factory 92-95 one. Do I use 92-95 master and slave? Does the pedals matter what they are out of? Is there a difference? I did see a 92 set up in a local yard today, but don't know when I'd be able to get back n pull it.

The AA bell uses a stock squarebody clutch slave cylinder on the drivers side. The pedals do matter. You need a set from 85-91 squarebody only. 88-98 GMT 400 pedals are not a match.

The AA bell uses a bracket that comes in their kit to mount the stock slave cylinder. From there it behaves like a stock setup.

i have to use pedals from a square?!? Do they even fit?? I was gonna get the other pieces from AA, since the only thing I have is the bell, nothing else...This is going in the 99 in my sig....

The AA bell housing is only setup to run the square body slave or the mechanical z bar linkage. Obviously the mechanical linkage won't work on your '99. I'd wager that you could use the square body slave and the stock '99 master. You would just need to adapt the hydraulic line.

Clutch linkage for an 88-00 GMT 400 looks like this one.

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't catch that fact. Get the GMT400 pedal like Ron pointed out. Though knowing now you are going into a 400 truck I'd just get either bellhousing that should have been on a 400 truck over the AA bell.

Here's my thought why. While you could use the AA bell with the squarebody external slave on the driver side, I don't know what interference you'll run into on the body or the exhaust. If you can't find the right bell I get it, but it would simplify everything with factory parts.

By looking at the AA kit, it looks like it puts the slave close to the fork. Gonna call em tomorrow and see what they say. I'd love to go back the yard and grab both trans n hydro sutff, but I never have time during the week....

OK so I have 2 NV4500s. One is a 99, the other is an earlier, dunno exact year but guessing 92-94. I've never actually driven a truck with either of the tran's, other than around the yard. One of these trans will be goin in my 99 CCSB, truck is gonna be used for towing. I know the early trans has a steeper first gear, so my thinking that would be good for towing. But what say you, people with experience with these trans??? Truck has a 454, at some point gonna rebuild the other motor I have, maybe make a 489 out of it. 6" lift and 35s eventually, prolly 4.56s too.
I have one out of 95 with bbc. I wish low or first was taller. 4.10 with 37"
Seems like starting in 2nd is too tall. I dunno. Still like it over the 700r4 though. Prolly need to suck it up and get lower gears so I dont need to use low. I think that is how this tranny was intended to be used.

Yeah yeah, more gear is always the answer. I would look towards 4.88 for that setup but you could probably do just fine with 4.56 for a bb.

Guy got back with my bout his truck, so we'll see how it goes this weekend. But I have another one from a 99, so same ratio as this one. But with the 454, 5-speed, 4.10s and 35s, might be a doggy off the line, but motor needs a refreshing so maybe a 489 will help lol

I'm running 4.10's, 35's the NV4500 and an 8.1. Doggy is not a way to describe it off the line. The same tire/axle ratio combo was certainly undergeared with the 5.3 I had in mine originally. But the big block will pull nicely with 4.10's and 35's

Yeah all my road dogs that were capable of setting up gears are dead or drunks. Cant afford to use a real shop.

Guy flaked again, so not trading. I'll see how it is with the 4.10s, then if need I'll swap to 4.56s. I have a cousin that does gears cheap. He installed a Detroit in a rear 60 for $100. New bearings shims n seals....can't beat that....

Took bell off n got a part number, 712548, which on AA’s site is for a friggin jeep swap. I put my clutch on Input shaft n it’s close, runs on the bottom but nothing supporting the shaft either. Missed out on a bell at junkyard, week too late. Surprise there. Can get 96-up bells new, but can’t find 95-older.
