You guys that have done this swap, how did you deal with relocating the floor penetrations? (assuming non removable tunnel)

I'm seeing a couple of options.

1. cut a big hole, weld it back in after with the holes in the right place.

2. cut a big hole, make it removable with the holes in the right place.

I'm curious to know what others did.

My setup is NV4500/NP205. I'm going with the 1.625 thick AA spacer to mount my long input tcase and an ORD Twin Stick shifter.

My vote is number 2. Measure and cut large holes and fab covers for them with the correct holes in them. Access to the top of your transmission is never a bad thing.

Mine was originally an auto TH400 before the swap, so my first cut on my tunnel was the only cut for a shifter. But from those I've seen go from 465 to 4500, I personally think the best option is just get the 4500 tranny in there, cut the hole in the correct spot, then weld in a patch for the old hole.

I loved having a removable tunnel in my 73.

So I'd lean towards cutting out a large section and bolting it back down

I kinda did that on the blazer when I swapped mine. You can see where I cut the spot welds on my tunnel and I just put it back.

My tunnel is not a separate piece like that, I'd for sure do that if it was. I'm thinking I'll just get after it with the cut off wheel and make it removeable.

I have one of these ready to go.
Thanks for throwing that out there. I think I'll just cut mine and make it removeable, probably easier than cutting and then trying to make another one fit. I know the piece I cut will fit and I have to cut it either way anyways.
